New doc on HBO: We Beat the Dream Team - highly recommend

There is a thread on the M/TV board, but I was going to start one here since I watched it last night and this audience would appreciate this doc.
We all know the story of the college Select team beating the DT in that scrimmage, and they went into some detail about it in the DT documentary from 2012 (which was awesome). This doc is from the perspective of that Select team, and it goes into a good bit of detail of what all happened that day and the lead up to it and if Chuck Daly threw the game or not (that's actually the main focus of the second half of the doc).
IMO while Chuck clearly didn't do anything to stop it from happening because he knew it was what the team needed to level up and kill everyone, I do think it was a legit game and the Select team did win legit. And I don't think I believe that Chuck planned it to happen; I just think he saw what was already happening and decided to ride it out to teach a valuable lesson. And clearly it worked. But that Select team was playing lights out and was legitimately playing the best basketball game of their collective lives.
It's a really solid doc though, and I highly recommend it if you liked the OG Dream Team doc.
Warning for closet Duke fans: Coach K comes off as a gigantic douchebag.
I do really wish you could buy those two scrimmages, plus the one scrimmage harped on in the original doc, on DVD somehow though. I would watch the shite out of that.
Here is the trailer for those interested:

anything can happen in a basketball game. Probably not even as big an upset as 2004 USA losing to Puerto Rico or whomever.
Duncan never gets crap for leading Team USA to a pathetic embarrassment in Athens.

How so? You don't think it's possible that the DT wasn't used to playing with each other yet and were very hesitant because they didn't want to piss each other off and bruise egos? Because that's literally what the DT players themselves said happened.
Nobody is saying that in a game where the Select's best and the DT's best that the DT would lose. But that's basically not what happened. And we aren't talking about random college kids either. Some of the kids on that team were the best players in the country and eventual multi-time all-stars in the league. And they happened to be on more than ever before in their lives. Weird things happen in sports.

He really did. When sociopath Jordan admits they got their butts whipped, that’s no small thing, especially after we all saw his attitude on the Last Dance for any perceived slight.
K just wouldn’t back off of the “they threw the game” angle and literally seemed pissed about any argument to the contrary.

Did Jordan suck dick in this game similarly to how he sucked the entire time on the Dream Team?
Led the team in minutes played and dead last by a mile in 2 point and 3 point shooting percentage.
Led the team in turnovers but not assists.
119 points on 113 shots.
For reference, Barkley had 144 points on 83 shots. Mullen and Malone had 104 and 103 on 62 and 63 shots respectively.
You can lose to anyone when your best player is performing so poorly.

I haven’t seen the show yet, but if I’m not mistaken the team had Chris Webber, Penny, and Grant Hill who all peaked as top 10 players in the league, as well as all stars Jamal Mashburn and Allan Houston, and Rodney Rogers who was also a damn good pro.
That group was better than any other national team in 1992.

Not sure how this was all on Timmy. That team was so different from the one that qualified a year earlier. The backcourt was led by Iverson and Marbury.

The doc brought that up a lot that those guys were also playing with a chip on their shoulders because had the rule not changed, they would've been on Team USA rather than the Dream Team guys. So that fueled them a bit that first scrimmage.
I also had no idea that Eric Montross had died a couple years ago. That one caught me off guard a little.

I don't think so. But it did go into some depth about how Jordan sat out a good portion of that game, and that was one of CK's main reasons to support his "Chuck threw the game" stance (which seemed to legitimately piss off/upset Grant Hill btw).

I’ll watch it. Knowing the ego of guys on the Dream Team, I can totally see them claiming they threw the game.

Chuck led that team on the floor. I don't know his reasons but he didn't want to just win. More so than any of the other players he wanted to humiliate the other teams. He played like it was personal and every player on the other teams had insulted his grandmother or something like it.

Not at all actually. Give it a shot and report back. I think you'll be surprised.

The Dream Team is the best team that has ever been assembled in the history of sport. No one beat them. No one was ever going to beat them.

Here come the youngins to tell us every all star team since 2000 would have humiliated the Dream Team.

You are 100% correct. Coach K choosing to die on the hill of “Chuck Daly threw the game” is pretty weird. Egomaniacs like Jordan and Magic admitted they got their asses kicked.
It was a perfect storm. It’s “just” a scrimmage. To the college kids, it was everything. Everyone alluded to the fact that they were hungry and energized, the Dream Team was still figuring it out. I agree with PJ Carlesimo in that my guess is that Chuck Daly saw things unfolding and let it happen.
The Dream Team was going to cruise to a gold regardless. Even with Jordan sitting for a long time, there’s HoFers at every position on the floor. Those guys have bigger on-court egos than even today’s NBA stars IMO. You can’t throw a game when Bird, Magic, Stockton, Robinson, Barkley, Pippen, etc are on your team

Coach K comes off like a complete cocksucker.
No surprise.
