This one time I spent thousands of dollars, travelled across the southeast, and gave up my weekends for softball.

True story.

It’s to expensive and sad seeing some families struggle to keep up the charade of their children being future Major leaguers.. high school has its own sadness as the delusions of an lsu offer fade to the reality of a spot on the BRCC roster but I enjoyed it for the most part bc I didn’t have delusions of grandeur for my children.

Saw the dark side yesterday. Dad yelling at a nine year old for missing plays and pushing his wife/gf/whatever away when she tried to temper his tirade. Several people ran to pull the dad away.

If I thought my kid was dogging it I might ask him what was going on but it just is not important enough otherwise to criticize him after a game.

I am lucky enough to be on a team that is competitive but where the parents have no lack of reality as to their kid's potential. Our season just started and we only play into June. Our coaches goal, and they are parent coaches, is to develop them where they MIGHT get a chance to ride the bench in high school.

Travel Ball is not inherently good or bad and I have seen plenty of both. It is up to the parents to create a program with realistic expectations and where player development, teamwork and fun are all part of the program.

We played last weekend and let me tell you these girls showed up and showed out! Despite getting screwed by the umps in pool play TWICE and gettin last place in pool play. First time my Paisleigh Kate has EVER been in last placed in pool play since she was in 4U! She was so embarrassed!! But let me tell you it lit a fire in her tail and as well as the other girls too. Coach Chad had them be at the park at 4:45am for batting practice and we was ALL ok with it!! And the proof was in the results. We come out there a whipped that #1 seed (want say there name cause they all cheat) but I'm sure yall can figure it out LMBO!! But we sent them packing and won the next 2 and made it all the way to the championship game at midnight. Unfortunately we got the SAME umps as we had in pool play and it didn't work out way but man I'm so proud of these girls and the way they fought!! When the cops was pullin Coach Chad off the field he told them how proud he was of them and two not let those umps ruin there love for the game and let me tell you it didn't. My PK is more determined then EVER! Can't wait for Dallas's next weekend!

Coached recreational ball for over 20 years. Was asked a few years back to coach a travel team. I made it three seasons and was done.

The kids were great. The parents were too much.

In the 80's I played on a travel team that had a great sponsor. He was 1 of 2 licensed porn agents in California. Traveled the country and played on his dime. And the were a couple guys who got married, and he supplied the entertainment. Wives weren't too happy though. Mai Lin, Janet Littledove, Breezy Lane were some of the entertainers.

God forbid a parent sacrifice the weekend for a child.

Travel ball should sue the SEC for stealing their motto

Oh bullshite. All 3 of my kids played sports and wife and I got it all done. Travel ball is really just tournament ball as most teams don't 'travel that far. Most activities for kids these days require time commitments - baseball, basketball, cheer, dance, soccer, volleyball, golf, tennis.

My sister is traveling across the state for 7 year old Coach pitch baseball. Seems a bit excessive to me.
