A judge has blocked President Donald Trump from firing the head of the federal office that investigates government corruption and protects whistleblowers.

On Friday, Trump sent a one-sentence email to Hampton Dellinger, who has led the Office of the Special Counsel since March 2024, telling him he was fired, according to a Wednesday night restraining order that temporarily halts the firing.

By law, Dellinger was supposed to serve a five-year term unless removed by the president for “inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office.”

quote:

“This language expresses Congress’s clear intent to ensure the independence of the Special Counsel and insulate his work from being buffeted by the winds of political change,” Judge Amy Berman Jackson, who former President Barack Obama appointed, wrote in the order.

Remove his staff, computers, phone, and access to anything except a windowless office with a table and chair.

The legislative branch shouldn’t be able to control the hiring and firings of the executive branch and visa versa.

If only the inspector generals of this fed gov't were this concerned, we might not have to be firing all these govt employees

Dear Amy,

Tenure of Office Act was unconstitutional. A president cannot be required to maintain the appointee of a prior president, regardless of what Congress says.

Thanks for playing.

frick off.

Do this with every person that should be terminated but can’t be because of activist judges.

I don't understand how this is subject to injunctive (immediate) relief. He won't be irreparably harmed. He can file an ordinary suit for wrongful termination and be made whole by an award of damages if he wins.

That block may stand.

If so, move his office to Nome AK.
