Which players in the NFL HOF wouldn't be there without the Super Bowl victories?

Are there many? I'd say Troy Aikman for sure.

I think you have to ask at the same time, who would be there without their Super Bowl victories still?

The most glaring example.

Plunkett, who I always liked, would also not be there. Not sure the Greise should be either.

It'll be Eli eventually.

Plunkett isn’t a HOFer. I’m not sure Griese is a good example either. Eight Pro Bowls and two All-Pro first teams is a pretty strong resume.

100%. First one that came to mind.

Joe Namath lifetime stats:

W L T WIN % YDS TDS INTS
62 63 4 .496 17,663 173 220

Basically immortalized for Super Bowl III for guaranteeing a victory. Was Superbowl MVP that game despite not throwing a TD or scoring a TD himself. Played in a huge market which gave him more recognition (basically like what is going to happen with Eli).

Namath was also the very first true NFL superstar. He had a larger-than-life personality that saw him on the cover of magazines, appear as a guest star on popular TV shows, and star in television commercials. He was also one of the smoothest, greatest womanizers of the latter half of the 20th century, bedding A-listers left and right.

Stabler, Bradshaw, Warner, Aikman, Griese, Namath, to name QBs. Terrell Davis, Franco Harris

I agree. And that is my point. None of that is based on how well he played football. If he would have been in some shite small market then none of that would have been available to him

On another note: are there examples of single plays that have kept players out of the HOF?

Some possible examples:
-Jim Marshall’s wrong way run
-Jackie Smith’s drop (he got in in 1994, but he probably gets in way earlier otherwise)
-Roger Craig’s fumble
-Gary Anderson’s missed kick

First 4k yard passer in nfl history. An nfl record that sat for a dozen years, until year 2 of the 16 game season he backed that season up with the super bowl. It was certainly based on how he played football.

Two-time AFL Player of the Year (MVP)
Face of the league for a decade, ushered football into the TV era.
I'm as big a Namath fan as anyone, but I agree, Super Bowl lll punched his ticket to the Hall.

How many linemen wouldn't have made the Hall without being on Super Bowl teams

But he wasn't and he ushered the NFL into the modern era as a result. Before him, the National Football League was consistently outdone by Major League Baseball and even college football. He helped change that with his play both on and off the field.

You can definitely argue that his play wasn't good enough to warrant a Hall of Fame induction. I wouldn't argue with you either. However, what he did for the sport warrants recognition and a permanent place in Canton IMHO.

I disagree about Franco Harris. He and Edgerrin James have basically the same stats and awards but Franco was a 9x Pro Bowl.

Weak rushing numbers. Most overrated RB of all time. Couldn't catch a hard watching an adult movie
