Boeing is still trying to kill themselves. The Artemis program is a fricking joke.

ETA: Boeing is laying off 400 related to Artemis. LINK

I’m in the job market and looked into Blue Origin. They have a strict 5 day per week in office policy now. I think companies are going to use return to office policies as an easy way to thin the workforce.

Space X has a product they offer, Star Link. Space X launches Star Link satellites into low orbit on the regular and every satellite has to be replaced every 5 years. Space X has a business case.

What is Blue Origin's business case?

They’re developing their own satellite based internet service called Project Kuiper. Actually it may be under Amazon.

That and providing launch services for heavier payloads than Falcon 9 can generally put into orbit.

Google it. BO was one of the lunar lander contract winners. They also had collaborations with Boeing.

Less focus on R&D and more on launches now, supposedly.

They absolutely are. Every company instituting a return to office policy is simply shedding headcount they don’t have to pay for (in severances and unemployment fees) prior to the layoffs they’ll announce in 6-8 months.

It’s like clockwork.

Beware: if your company announces a return to office policy then you better start ensuring you won’t get the axe or start looking for new employment. Best case scenario you find a new gig you can take job right around the time your company lays you off and pays you a severance. Double dipping

It’s clear some of you are totally into space programs, lol.

Please share how Artemis was keeping BO afloat? Or any contracts with Boeing? What is BO going to focus on?

Thanks in advance

SpaceX has a lunar lander contract as well. As far as I know neither SpaceX or Blue Origins landers had anything to do with Boeing.

I’m unfamiliar with this. Can you please elaborate?

I think you're missing the point. Boeing and Artemis have their own issues. That BO is laying off people while Boeing is warning about downsizing its own SLS program is telling.

The one who has been producing at a breakneck speed is SpaceX .

I stopped at a little diner while traveling through West Texas a couple of years ago. The place was jam-packed with oilfield workers and Blue Origin engineers.

The Blue Origin folks really stood out.

BO isn’t directly impacted by the SLS cancellation, but could potentially be hit by any changes to Artemis (the overall moon program). Currently there is still a plan to use the lunar gateway, and while SLS is being canceled, they’ll still need a ship to get the astronauts there, and it’s assumed to be Starship. From gateway, 2 lunar landers are being developed, one from SpaceX and one from BO. If gateway is eliminated, it might default to Starship only. None of this has been determined yet. My guess is that this is more related to the new management that was brought in awhile ago. The former head of BO ran the operation more like Boeing (thus all the delays), they’re running a leaner operation now.
