It’s not very politically correct. That would be my guess. Fun movie tho!

I watched it on Pluto TV last week. Parts 1 and 2.
Nobody watches linear TV anymore, it's all ball bearings now.

Find it & watch it again. If they air it on TV the woke peoples heads would explode. Love that movie!

Way better.

Especially for a car guy. Some serious iron in that movie.

I actually read an article about it that I can't find.

I'm probably going to butcher the explanation, but apparently it will likely never be on TV or streaming. There was some weird thing with the studio and distributer since 20th Century distributed it but it was a Warner Brothers movie. I think there was also something with It being a Warner movie and the TImeWarner merger. But basically they are owned by different companies and there was no agreements back then that would deal with future streaming. All the companies involved have since been sold off which ads another layer and so it's kind of in a weird limbo and no one can do anything with it.

They don't have the same issue with Cannonball Run II so that's why you can find it.

According to JustWatch, it's not available for streaming anywhere.

Wiki says the rights are owned by Fortune Star Media, a Chinese company.

Wiki also tells the sad tale of a stunt woman who was rendered quadriplegic. She was riding in an Aston Martin that "had been beset with mechanical problems, including defective steering, clutch, and speedometer. It also had bald tires and no seat belts. Nickerson (the primary stuntman) asked for repairs to the car, and while some were done, other things were left unfixed, including the lack of seatbelts." The car wrecked, and she broke her neck. "Her lawsuit against the movie's producers led to required seat-belt use in all stunt cars and caused the Directors Guild to prohibit directors from altering stunts on location." LINK

Yeah, this makes much more sense that it was too politically incorrect. They show perhaps the most politically incorrect show of all time - Blazing Saddles all the time - yes they selectively edit it but there's still plenty enough PI stuff on there and it's much more PI than Cannonball run.

Pluto needs a Hal Needham channel. Hooper, Smokey and the Bandit, Stroker Ace, and Cannonball Run all on repeat.

I'd like to see a documentary-style film of the original Cannonball from back in the 70s.
Or a non-comedy remake.
