Why haven’t we had a truly good Point Guard in like 10 years?

What is it about LSU that just flat can’t get a true #1 point guard? I swear it seems we haven’t had one since tremont.

ETA I know it’s only been like 6 years but it feels like a lifetime.

Xavier Pinson was good. His injury is why we faltered to 9-9 in SEC play.

Correct.

He wasn’t an all star, but he was the catalyst for the offense.

That team was on fire. They had beaten Kentucky and Tennessee in back to back games to go to 14-1. He got hurt near the end of the Tennessee game.

People forget this.

We were 2-1 in SEC play and ranked 12th coming off wins against #16 UK and #18 Tennessee. Pinson got injured late in the Tenn game. We then went 2-4 over the next 6 before Pinson tried to play against TCU.

I don't ever really recall him being 100% again. He was in a minutes restriction the next game against Ole Miss that we lost, then sat the next game in a loss to Vandy.

Had a 2-6 stretch that derailed that season. Otherwise they very well would have been a top 4 seed come March

He was never 100%. He had no strength, couldn’t get lift. All his shots were front iron. And his stamina never came back. It killed that team. I’m surprised he was back at all that season because his knee buckled like crazy.

He was rock solid on a very good team. I liked him at point, would like someone like him right now.

Wade had solid PG's every year. Waters, Smart, and Pinson.

Yet the guy who made his name by developing one particular guard hasn't had an SEC caliber PG yet in 3 years.

Yes, I recall that pre-season lots on this board said for years "Wade can't coach defense." And that team proceeded to lead levery defensive category in the country until mid-season.

Smart wasn’t that long ago. Honestly if this team has smart on it, we might have a few more W’s

Mays was also pretty much a PG. Wade liked those combo guards

Mays is one of my all time favorite tigers. It kills me that Wayde wasn’t there with him for their senior night. Or that his last tourney was cancelled.

He’s a throwback, we watched him develop over 4 seasons from taking his lumps on JJs 2-16 team to becoming a starter for Wade to a second team All-SEC player on an SEC title team to a 1st team All-Conf performer/leader/star player for us plus he was a phenomenal student. You just don’t see guys like him anymore.

Like, I don't know. Like, good question. So, like, do you, like, think, like, LSU basketball will, you know, like, ever be relevant again?

Because the program is irrelevant. Truly good players go to programs that are truly good and that showcase their talents on a national stage (and they pay them their market value)

LSU basketball isn’t one of those destinations.
