Whether it's a season long-anticipated clash of the titans (like 1971 Nebraska-Oklahoma) or a generational upset that got the eventual champion into title position (like the 2007 Backyard Brawl), list some of your favorites you've seen.

2019 LSU-Alabama is up there for me. Once we got the Bama monkey off our backs, I knew we were winning it all.

For most of the 90s, FSU, UF, Miami games would decide who won / played for the national title. Wide right, Wide left.

1993 FSU at UF. UF had momentum. If they win, FSU is out of it. Warrick Dunn huge 3rd down run in one of the loudest moments in the history of the Swamp. FSU goes on to win a close one, beats Nebraska for the title in a game, that if it lasted another five minutes, Nebraska probably wins. FSU was exhausted at the end of that game.

1994 - UF at FSU, the Choke at Doak. UF should have won the game by multiple scores. Collapsed in the 4th quarter. If they win, they probably play for the title and beat Nebraska, who squeaked by a meh Miami team to win Osborne's first title at Nebraska.

1996 UF at FSU. FSU gets a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, very fluky quarter, UF was missing starting C, who was the best C in the nation; FSU held on to win 24-21. Controversial game with a lot of late hits on UF QB. Set up the rematch for the national title and UF won 52-20.

1997 - FSU at UF. UF pulls the upset in Gainesville. FSU was undefeated. With a 4 team playoff, both teams get in. But, in the old system, it knocked FSU out of it and I think they would have easily beaten Michigan. They just ran into UF on the wrong night and in the wrong location.

1998 - UF at FSU. UF was upset by Vols in OT earlier in the year. If UF had beaten FSU, which they should have, they were projected to get matched up against the Vols in the first BCS title game, which UF would have won on a neutral field in a rematch.

2008 - Bama v UF, SECCG
2009 - Bama v UF, SECCG
Both of those games were for the title. Should have had the 4 team playoff at that time. Both losers get into the playoff.

UF v Georgia 2012 - UF had the best defense in the nation, but one of the worse offenses. UF player (Jordan Reed) going in for a score, fumbles, ballgame.

That was an epic bowl season. Last legitimate split title.

FSU wouldn't have played Michigan. It was the final year of the Alliance and the Rose Bowl was the conference tie ins no matter what. Michigan beat a 10-1 Washington State team. Nebraska beat #3 Tennessee. Florida State was #4 and had an outside shot at one poll if they beat tOSU in the Sugar, Tennessee beat Nebraska, and WSU beat Michigan.

The strength of the team, gave up 176 rushing yards, just played horribly. Even Pete said Rey Maualuga played awful after the game.

Great teams often have bad days, quite a few Saban teams had as such. Its Sports. If you take out the Oregon State game, USC gave up about 30 rush yards a game that year. What a bizarre outlier that game was.

2001 LSU-Auburn

LSU beats tCrap out of auburn in a 9/11 makeup game and then makes Tennessee eat da poo poo in Atlanta, thus sending Nebraska to the championship game where they got boat raced by Miami.

As it pertains to this thread, 06 UCLA is more relevant because USC would have been in the title game against OSU.

Instead UF gets in, kills OSU and USC kills Michigan in the Rose Bowl

While this was a great game, the only reason Florida got the rematch in the Sugar Bowl was because Texas knocked off Nebraska in the inaugural Big 12 Championship. The UF-FSU game didn’t really determine anything.

I’d argue the entirety of the 2007 CFB season. The weirdest games impacted the entire season, nonetheless the curse of #1&2.

I’ve never remembered that many Thursday or late night Saturday games impacting the season.

07 Pitt-WV. WV wins and the are are in but they lost to a 4-7 Pitt team. WV was a 22.5 pt home favorite in that game.

Part McAfee missed 2 FG in that game for WV. Pitt won 13-9.

You're thinking of USC-Notre Dame in the 70's.

You just have to laugh at that game looking back.

UCLA's defensive performance snapped USC's NCAA-record streak of 63 consecutive 20-point games.

frickin' 9 points against a 6-5 UCLA team when USC was ranked #2? Total choke job i in the last game of the regular season. USC beat #6 Notre Dame 44-24 the week prior. It still baffles the mind.

The rematch probably wouldn’t have either if Arizona State had held on against Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl.
