Anyone ever use Snapshot by Progressive insurance? Do you actually get cheaper rates?

Cheaper rates or a way for them to raise your rates?

Raise what you pay? Hard brake is a X ?

I have an app with USAA. My current saving is 17%. It counts hands free calls against you which sucks and if you forget to lock your phone it thinks you’re using it. I think you get 10% savings just for using it.

my daughter used it and got her rate lowered, I drive way too much to even plug that thing in, unless they give me a discount for being parked at Rick's Cabaret for a few hours every night

I'm a somewhat aggressive driver. I am a bit heavy footed, I take turns quickly, etc. I don't tailgate, swerve, or create any real danger for others, but I enjoy occasionally hitting the gas on open straight aways like any other red blooded male.
I think snapshot would be a net negative for me

same, Ford monitors my driving and reminds me of it, just glad they don't sell that info, yet

I’m doing the State Farm equivalent in my wife’s car but not mine. I drive too much so I’d almost assuredly end up paying more. My wife rarely has to drive more than 2/3 miles at a time unless she’s needed in the office for something which is rare and she drives insanely defensive so figured it was worth it for her.

Had it in my last car and was going great until I got rear ended by an uninsured broad and pushed into a pickup in front of me.

I used it like 10 years ago, or whenever it first came out. Did pretty well until the last week, where I had to stop short and evade when someone in front of me did an illegal turn. I called progressive to let them know what happened, and they said a "buffer is built in" for stuff like that. frick that shite, I ripped it out and threw it into a lake (which yes they did charge me for not returning it). I somehow saved 20 bucks a month.

I have to be to work for 4 am and driving before 5am is one of the risk factors.

Raised mine bc apparently I speed a lot and hit the brakes a lot.

Yes. My savings was over 6 mos is ~$400 - $500

I’ve been curious about this because State Farm swears it won’t increase your rate. But it will save 10% just for using it. I’m skeptical.

Progressive wants me to just download an app on my phone that's not physically connected to my vehicle in anyway.
frick that shite!
I spend a lot of time in other vehicles (company vehicles on sales calls). Good bit of time as a passenger, etc.
last thing I need is for progressive to decide that I'm driving my truck hundreds of miles more per day than I actually am.
or that I'm the one driving when I'm actually a passenger.

The less they know the better.

There is an option to switch for the trip if you are the passenger

Put my elder mothers vehicle on it. $100 saving right up front, she just received six month bill, $100 lower than initial.

Lowered ours, but that thing drove me mad while it was installed. By the amount of beeps, I was sure it would raise mine.

10% Discount to start off. Depending on your state it either rates the amount of miles you drive and how safely you drive or just how safely you drive. It will adjust the discount based on those factors. The only way you get no discount is if you completely ignore it's requests for mileage or disconnect the beacon.
The only way it could raise your premiums more than it would be if you didn't have the discount is if you are driving lots of miles. If you're doing 30k miles I wouldn't bother with the discount in that situation.
