Kids growing up… holy crap it happens fast

We all hear it. We all know it. But man, it happens faster than you can even imagine.
For parents with younger kids… never let work be your priority. Never let an opportunity to spend time with them pass.
What seems like an inconvenience today will be a regret tomorrow.
College visits is the slap in the face of reality.

The days are long but the years are short.
quote:
From the moment you hold your baby in your arms,
you will never be the same.
You might long for the person you were before,
When you have freedom and time,
And nothing in particular to worry about.
You will know tiredness like you never knew it before,
And days will run into days that are exactly the same,
Full of feedings and burping,
Nappy changes and crying,
Whining and fighting,
Naps or a lack of naps,
It might seem like a never-ending cycle.
But don’t forget …
There is a last time for everything.
There will come a time when you will feed
your baby for the very last time.
They will fall asleep on you after a long day
And it will be the last time you ever hold your sleeping child.
One day you will carry them on your hip then set them down,
And never pick them up that way again.
You will scrub their hair in the bath one night
And from that day on they will want to bathe alone.
They will hold your hand to cross the road,
Then never reach for it again.
They will creep into your room at midnight for cuddles,
And it will be the last night you ever wake to this.
One afternoon you will sing “the wheels on the bus”
and do all the actions,
Then never sing them that song again.
They will kiss you goodbye at the school gate,
The next day they will ask to walk to the gate alone.
You will read a final bedtime story and wipe your last dirty face.
They will run to you with arms raised for the very last time.
The thing is, you won’t even know it’s the last time
Until there are no more times.
And even then, it will take you a while to realize.
So while you are living in these times,
remember there are only so many of them
and when they are gone, you will yearn for just one more day of them.
For one last time.

It took 900 years to go from Kindergarten to 5th grade....and then 14 seconds to go from 6th grade to HS graduation.

Yes, it's depressing

Do you know who the father is?

Our son will be 22 this year.
Yeah it happens fast.
Break up the monotony. Makes it go by a little slower.

It is shockingly fast and most people don't notice but they get old as hell in the process of getting a kid from the larvae stage to off the payroll. My wife and I were young and cool when our son was born. We are now old and the complete opposite of cool LOL. Never saw it happen. Our poor daughter, still at home and on the payroll, has to put up with it.....
Seriously...it is amazingly fast.

I hate when my dad plays that damn song especially since I’m the only child who does stuff with him haha

Truth. It makes you sad but it shouldn’t really, especially if you’ve had a good involved life with them.
Living to see your kids grow older is a blessing, but sure seems hard to keep that in mind.

Yup, I’ve got 4 months left with my son before he’s off at college. I have no idea how he’s going to juggle it all. I have no idea how my wife is going to survive. It’s going to be turbo strange.

It's fun watching them experience life, though.

Truer words never spoken. Middle school thru High school was a blur. We miss the holidays / birthdays when they were young. But I have to admit we've adjusted to them being adults and actually enjoy the day to day interactions with them more than we did when they were very young. I guess it goes with the territory. Enjoy your time with your kids b/c ALL of the money in the world won't bring it back !

My oldest starts high school this fall. Seems like only 3-4 years ago she was a new born baby.
Then hell on wheels came along. He'll be going into 6th grade this fall.

This.
Watching them maneuver through life is satisfying. Knowing that they are launched and can make it on their own is a good feeling. Hopefully the bumps are small and you can be there when needed.

So fast. And only thing that really can make me choke up a little is thinking about it or looking at how far they’ve come so fast.

And then you get Grandkids, which is great. And then you die, which is not so great.

Mine are 36 & 41 and my oldest Granddaughter will be 19! The other 4 are 8-15! You are so right and I laid in bed this morning thinking about It and it goes to Warp Speed
