Home every night and drives 15-20 miles/day. We have a gas burner for long trips, and looking for suggestions/comments from current EV users.
I will be researching the pros/cons, so please fire away with any real life experiences.....I have rented a few on business travel, so have a grip on the basics....
TIA

Thanks for letting us know.

Get a hybrid instead. It uses both and gets you extended miles

My mom got a hybrid, wanted to save on gas. Her insurance shot up through the roof, negating her gas savings. Had she to do over again, she would have kept her ICE truck.
I would definitely recommend talking to your insurance agent *before* you select your car and find out the difference in expense.

Seems incredibly strange.
Why would a hybrid equate to more actuarial risk?

1 of each is pretty ideal. My wife has a model 3 we use around town and for San Antonio trips to see family. Longer trips we take my GX.

Is it still too early for an EV purchase....?
What about the tax breaks....
How long do the batteries really last before replacement is required?
Can you buy good warranties for EVs?
Insurance rates?
Learning here.....

I am guessing cost to repair.. had a newer tacoma or tundra, traded for a new camry hybrid (maybe corolla). Saves on gas, pays ton more in insurance.

Your wife wants to keep up with the Joneses by owning a Tesla. let’s just start there.

Repair costs but the poster also did not mention the age and price of the compared vehicles.

Depends on the oem and behavior but prob 150-250k miles.

Why would this make the prices ‘shoot up’? Maybe $20 month? But yes that’s $200+ a year which buys a good bit of gas.

I don't know everything about her buy/trade... she just mentioned the feller at the dealership told her how much money she could save downsizing from toyota truck to toyota (hybrid) car. She jumped on it... and regrets not researching the insurance cost difference. YMMV- I have no opinion on gas, hybrid or electric- just advice to talk to your insurance agent so you know what you're getting into.

She drives 12,000/year....and pretty normal driver.
Is a used EV in play here?
I am ignorant on the EV deals at this point. Have a year to learn and decide....no rush and no worries either way.

My big hang up is resale value and longevity. I use vehicles until the cost of repair exceeds the value.
I don't see a future where electric vehicles trickle down to lower income. Someone isn't gonna be able to go buy a viable used e/v for a few thousand. It's going to be interesting what rural poor people do for vehicles in the future as the evs are scrapped and the more modern ice vehicles are impossible to cheaply repair.

Great point! And I think your theory is correct.

Buy used. The second market for EVs is incredible to behold.
You can get a 1.5 yr old Rivian that sold for 90K new for like 50K.
Its a big deal and very few people are talking about it. Check out Doug DeMuro on this topic.

Nope, she wants a gas car.....my idea to at least investigate EVs......and we do not know anyone who owns an EV, which is scary. Thats is why I am posting for knowledge!

As long as most of that is local that’s a pretty solid candidate. That’s a little more than my wife drive and she charges about once every 10 days. Yours would probably be once every 5-6 days.
