Breakdown my Lipids Panel

I’m 32, 128 lbs probably 15% body fat or lower. I run 10 miles a week at least and lift twice a week. I’m in great shape strength standards wise and cardiovascular shape wise. I constantly have a blood pressure of 135/90. My apolioprotien B levels are 131 mg/dl. My HDL is 73 mg/dl, LDL is 176 mg/dl, triglycerides are 52 mg/dl, total chlosterol is 249 mg/dl. LDL particles total is 1976 nmol/L.
Have I just been dealt a crappy genetic hand?
Both grandfather and grandmother had ASCVD issues.
Thanks,

Kind of a mixed picture and yes it's likely genetic.
LDL/Apo B is elevated, however your triglycerides are very low and HDL high. Low triglycerides and high HDL imply good insulin sensitivity. Low triglycerides also implies low remnant cholesterol particles, which are highly atherogenic, and low VLDL. So in short your ApoB is elevated which increases your atherosclerotic risk over time (for you this may be 40-50 years), but things could be much worse.
Your blood pressure is also elevated, a diastolic of 90 in a fit person your age is 10-20 points higher than expected. We know that getting BP down to 120/80 reduces risk of stroke, heart attack, etc over time.
These two issues are likely synergistic as well in regards to your risk for athersclerosis.
Calcium score at 32 years old is probably going to be 0 regardless of whether atherosclerosis has begun in your arteries just because you're probably too young for them to have calcified yet.
I think most experts would recommend better blood pressure control for you.
I think whether or not to treat your lipids would be more of a debate. Personally, I believe in aggressive treatment of lipids with the understanding that atherosclerosis develops over several decades, starting in our teens to 20s. You could consider a low dose statin or statin/zetia combo. The studies suggest a fairly linear relationship between Apo B and atherosclerotic disease over time.

Just FYI chat GPT is pretty good for this kind of stuff

Just wondering, have you been diagnosed/tested for familial hypercholesterolemia?
If so, best advice I can give is to seek out a reputable cardiologist that specializes in FH.
Best of luck to you.

Bring back this thread from a couple of months ago
I am a middle 50s male, 215lbs, 5'10". Non-smoker, do not drink alcohol. I get moderate exercise. Diet is fairly decent.
Labs came in at total cholesterol: 160
Triglycerides: 79
HDLs: 41
LDLs: 102( a little high)
Blood pressure is within normal range: 179 over 81
Had a CT Calcium score: 101
LAD has a 83 score
RCA is: 18
Cardiologist prescribed 10mg of atorvastation(lipotor) per day.
Also told me to take a 'baby' aspirin per day.
The thing I am apprehensive about is statins. My lipids are pretty much in line other than my LDLs are a little high and my calcium score was border line moderate for my age.
Are statins really worth it?
I know the cardiologist knows a lot more about this than I can even imagine.
But statins side-effects really concern me.
TIA

OK, I misread my lab sheet. Should be 114 over 81

Are you inferring someone at that height and weight must have a bad diet?

Either eating the wrong things or way too much of the right things. Drop 30 lbs minimum and your health would immediately react

Or he just has some muscle mass.... I'm 5'7" 194, 15% BF so him being three inches taller and 20lbs heavier doesn't exactly seem crazy to me. Some of you on this board need to bulk up, yall seem to mostly be built like women.
Posted on 4/14/25 at 2:38 pm to lsupride87
I’m 5’10” and fluctuate between 216-220. Last dexa scan had me at 13.9% BF. I wouldn’t be able to maintain it with a bad diet.

Are you in your 50s and would you describe your exercise as moderate? If so, you are either a genetic freak or juiced to the gills.

Dang, I didn’t see where the guy was in his 50s. I am mid-30s.

That takes great genetics or extreme working out. OP says he is 50 with moderate exercise…..
For reference cam skatebo is 5’10” (measured 5 9.5”) at combine and 219 at combine. Body fat right at that 15% mark too
I can promise you there are not many human beings like you and him at 220lbs and 5’10”

You are either overweight or a freak of nature.
Everyone is fat and a lot of people obese. You can’t compare yourself to the rest of unhealthy America and say you aren’t fat.
This is 195 down to 145 @ 5’7

They are built like this nowadays, probably closer to you.

Actually, my diet is fairly good.
I don't guzzle down 2 gallons of the crappy sludge called soda, sugary garbage sports/energy drinks that is full of chemicals and who knows what else ..I don't eat junk Taco Smell or McYuckys everyday...I am not sitting on the couch stuffing my face with a half gallon of gunk called 'ice cream' or gorging down a large bag of artificial junk that is supposed to be made of corn...and the list goes on and on.
For example, wife and I just a had about a 4oz steak each, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, celery for dinner tonight.
I am not going to get too much further into detail, but our diet consist of salmon, tuna, mackerel, small amounts of steak along with vegetables and water and maybe a lemonade.
Can I do better? Absolutely. I love fried chicken and a nice juicy hamburger, some good cake and pie just like anyone else.

I couldn't agree more with this.
Now to the actual question I have is about statins
.
I read about long-term side effects. Especially on the liver and even the brain.
Our livers produce all of the cholesterol our body needs.
Our brains are composed of about 20% cholesterol.
I have read about statins and its effects on the brain, especially in relation to Alzheimer's.
Does statin use cause Alzheimer's?
I have no idea.
There are studies that says yes and other that contend statins do NOT cause Alzheimer's(even helps prevent Alzheimer's).
I am trying to get the boards opinions on the matter of statins.
BTW, cardiologist prescribed 10mg of atorvastatin(generic Lipitor) and a baby aspirin.

I used to post my InBody scans on here all the time. I'm definitely not a freak of nature, and Yes I'm overweight. Overweight doesn't necessarily mean fat, just means my BMI says I'm overweight. I've gotten down to 183 @ 13.3% body fat, but currently I'm 194 and 15% BF. Its not that difficult to do, just cant be lazy.
