They'll claim ' next of kin', no doubt. But it's a global story... how has the family not been notified?


Meanwhile, the story of the trans UH-60 pilot from the VA AR who WASN'T on the flight has been leaked, spread and now revealed.

They could be concerned about backlash against the family once the name is released. That is the only non-conspiratorial reason I can think of but I don't think that holds up. It is extremely suspicious.

The name is widely known inside the Army. No big cover up. People are being respectful of the family and not leaking it.

Perhaps those in charge are giving the family a few minutes to mourn their death before all hell breaks loose.. perhaps they are investigating to rule out some other intention.. perhaps something else..

The pilot is the one that will be held responsible.. along with the person in charge of ATC that night, and they will be under the microscope a million times worse than any of the other people involved in the accident.

Either way, if it was my son/daughter who caused the death of 67 people, intentionally or not, I would want as much time as possible to not only mourn their death, but also try to prepare for all the shite that is about to show up on their front door..

I've served as a CAO / CNO several times in my career. I know everyone wants to jump to conspiracy theories but here's how it works.

DoD cannot release the name until 24 hours after NOK notification. Even when the families find out about the death the NOK notifciation still has to be completed and that starts the clock.

I had to do one where the Soldier posted a suicide note on Facebook and killed himself. His mom drove to our base and was at the hospital. The Soldier had publicly said he was going to kill himself. The 24-hour is still non-negotiable. The clock started after I did official NOK notification to the mom at the hospital.

It's a policy designed to give families time to notify who they need and prepare for any media attention.

There is no conspiracy on this one. A lot of people in the Army already know who it is but they are respecting the process.
