So I know the guy lost in court. Did he appeal that ruling?
It's been probably 5 years at this point so I'd hope there's some kind of update.

Would love to know how that played out - did they drop everything or was this cop told that everything was a-ok with how he handled that.

I think the Audit the Audit video may cover some of the post-arrest history. I forget. This is a couple of years old

"I could take you to jail for having an unsigned registration card. That's up to six months in jail."
Is that even remotely true?

Probably. Lots of those violations can have jail time.
My thread has some of the post-arrest history

Guy lost on the flashing light argument and had the signed registration charged dismissed. Cop was not reprimanded.

I get losing on the flashing light argument. As dumb as that is (especially in the day time), I get that it's a law and why it's in place.
But arresting someone for any of that seems egregious. And if the cop wasn't reprimanded, I hope his chief at least told him to knock that shite off and not do it again (I assume not though).
ETA This is a quote from your link in your original thread, and it rings pretty true:
Also in the comments several people allude to this dude's conviction (for the lights) getting overturned and pursuing a civil rights lawsuit. Not sure if that's true or what the results are if it is though.

In 2008 I was almost arrested by a Chicago police officer for looking at him. We were outside of a Wrigley field and my friend had handed another friend his ticket to the game. Cop thought we were selling tickets so he came over and threatened to arrest us. He and my friend are going back and forth about how he got the ticket and why the other friend didnt yet have his and the entire time I'm looking at the cop. He looks at me and asks why I'm eyeballing him. I proceed to say that its typically polite to look at the person speaking to you. He grabs me, puts me in cuffs and places me in the car. After about 30 minutes another officer opens the door and asks what I did. I tell him the story and then he takes the cuffs off, grabs my shite off the hood of the car and says go enjoy the game.
Cool story bro! Not all cops are good cops, some are just assholes.

The hiring age for a police officer needs to be a minimum of 30.

This is sickening he got upset because he was laughing.

"I'll never be your brother."
This cop is quite the a-hole. He probably shouldn't be a cop.

Looks like he may have won his appeal.
I just hope this cop was fired. He should not be a cop.

I was told this only happens to black people because of their skin color…so cops are arresting folks now because they have an authoritarian complex? Is this new?

No. Federal courts have said it's protected free speech, but they also said you have to follow the law about not doing it within 500 ft of oncoming traffic and you could be charged with interfering with police operations.
He'd probably win on appeal, though, because the video clearly shows the deputy cherry-picking and loosely interpreting statutes to back up a personal vendetta/ego trip. The signed registration law had been repealed for a while when he wrote the citation, so that is clear evidence that he was digging and using his badge to harass the driver.
This incident was from 2022, btw.
Eta - the driver won on appeal. The deputy was in an OIS the next month where another deputy was killed. They were investigating break-ins when the dopers doing it started shooting at them.
