Getting Blood work Bill directly from Lab

Routine physical at my PCP who took blood, sent it off to their lab. I paid the PCP for the visit. Why am I getting billed directly from the lab for a routine blood panel? Do I just tell them to frick off? Do I actually owe them this money? Is this one of those deals where they "accidentally" send out $8.14 bills to a million customers because thousands will simply pay it?
What's the scam here?

Two different services provided by two different companies. You owe. It is standard.

It is prolly the primary trying to get more out of your insurance….apparently, it didn’t work!
I would do some further investigating, as your doctor might be in network but the lab may not be. Chances are, you’ll have to pay it…but you need to know what is going on.

Your PCP probably ordered a test that wasn’t covered by your insurance. I usually get an $8 bill when I get an apo B level drawn. I don’t think these huge companies are trying to scam you for $8.

You could just call your PCP and ask them

Why would the lab not bill you?

Do you get an EOB from your ins to validate it, or do you just pay it like a good little boy?

Right…his pcp probably owns the lab, too.

I have blood done every time I go and never been billed by the lab.

The lab has to be a separate entity than the PCP and they should be billing you every time.

Very normal billing by different entities. Are you new to medical billing?

Had a similar situation with my wife except they sent her sample to an out of network lab. She called and bitched out the PCP and we didn't have to pay.
Medical debt is a joke anyway. Who cares.

It depends on your n'surance. The lab always tells me that I may get a bill if ins co doesn't cover all of it. Glad they do b/c that can get expensive. Blood work is a big money maker for hospitals.

Who wants to and up in collections and have it on credit report? Or be sued for some small amount. It’s a joke, but we lose.

No scam in this case.
I understand being leery of balance billing but this isn’t it.

I’d certainly pay what you owe or negotiate if it’s high.
Not paying anything with the big Labs like LabCorp and Quest and many other will result in them Fukin ur credit.

This is not it
What more than likely happened is the PCP ordered a lab that your insurance refused to pay for or the lab charged X and the insurance would only pay for Y which was less

Sometimes you get a bill from the lab because the Pathologist bills for reviewing your results. They never do unless the results are extremely abnormal.

Call your insurance company to confirm your coverage for labs. Then have them go over the claim and bill to determine what your appropriate cost sharing should be
It could be a few different things, but without knowing your policy or the lab I wouldn’t be able to tell with certainty.
It could be that the lab was out of network for your plan. It could be that one of the test ordered was not covered by your plan. It could be that The lab never even submitted a claim to your insurance company. Best bet is to look at your explanation of benefits or call your insurance carrier to confirm what you should owe.
