Buying titles isn't cheap. I'm sure they feel it was worth it.

NIL doesn't come from this school.

The article described the issue. Ohio State only had six home games in 2023, and we bought out our head basketball coach.

Wasn’t it Ole Miss (or some SEC school) that had to pause some athletic buildings or renovations because they were spending so much money on buying players?

That’s about $25M of it ($9M to pay your coach to leave, $16M in loss of revenue from fewer home games).
The rest seems like less revenue in general (merch, royalties, etc). But can’t say for sure because the article has pop-up AIDS so I closed it.

Yeah, those numbers will be way up for the merch, royalties with the national title.

And only two of those sports make money.

If you read the article that this was mostly ticket based since the donations to buy the tickets and the actual prices were affected by the only 6 game home schedule in 2023 and a dip in apparel sales. And the $9 Million buyout for our basketball coach.
It's not a naive take.

Ohio State consumes your thoughts when you try to sleep. Love it

Players like to say it's a business and they should get a cut. So, what is their cut when the business is $37M in debt?

They will make it up with all the Natty merch they sell to the millions of sidewalk fans who follow them
