McCartney and Harrison brought these guys under the Apple Records label and had grand plans for them. After that? One of the most tragic, fricked up band dissolutions you’ll ever read about.

Just did a dive on them. Pretty messed up but not out of the norm for the entertainment industry, unfortunately.

Agree on Badfinger.

I’ll add Wet Willie.

Big Star
the gold standard for great (very great) bands that never made it. Even after Chris Bell left chilton et al continued to record groundbreaking and influential music for that short time until it fizzled out. That a reconstituted big star was able to tour again decades later was a minor miracle

Klaatu the resurrected Beatles:

Fantastic album. People thought they were the Beatles under a pseudonym and got pissed to find out they weren't.

Not really. Mal Evans discovered them and pushed them for years and then finally, grudgingly, Paul et all agreed. Mal actually produced one of their biggest hits, No Matter What.

This is true.

I agree overall that Badfinger fits the thrust of this thread. I just don't want Paul and George getting credit for something they not only didn't do, but sort of actually went against for several years.

Paul and George are credited on some of their songs and members of the band played on "All Things Must Pass". And considering The Beatles owned Apple Records at the time....that was my takeaway.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I've never read about any reluctance on their part.

That was a trip down memory lane. To be honest, I never liked/"bought" Dig. When "Believe" was released, it already sounded dated and like try-hard attempt at an alternative hit.

You nailed it with Captain Beyond. Saw them with Ursa Major and Alice Cooper at the Nashville Speedway back in 1970 something. Went out and bought that album with the cool 3-D cover. Great debut album and they were great live.

Zebra should have been huge, but were viewed as a Zeppelin cover band.

Captain Beyond has a weird kind of story. They had everything going for them and seemed to be ahead of their time. Just weren't in the commercial zone I suppose.
