Do/Did you spank your kids?

If so, are they suffering from it?
I’m a child of the 80s-90s and spanking was my dad’s default punishment. No timeouts. No negotiations. His dad did the same to him. Now I’m in my 40s with children of my own and I can’t really tell if it affected me in any tangible way. I ask because my son is testing me and I want to do what’s right by him, and I guess it’s my upbringing, but I’m ready to wear his arse out. Respectfully.

I have a daughter and no, I will never spank her. I got my arse whipped on the reg when I was growing up though.

Did. More like spatting, really. Definitely less than I got from my own mother.

I never spanked my daughter either. Maybe a quick smack on the butt from time to time, but never the kind of formal arse-whipping I got growing up. My dad used a belt and everything, which I could never do.
This boy is altogether different, though, and testing me in ways she never did. I hate it.

Yes, I spanked my kids. The youngest is 9, so it’s been a while.
I was spanked.
Not sure if it affected me or has affected my kids. Everyone will find something to suffer from.
The yelling was probably worse for me as a kid.

well...never "spanked" either of them. 1 boy and 1 girl. slapped them with two fingers, or flicked the shite out of them.
my mom would hit us with whatever was within reach. my dad...well, that was a bit more painful. i even deserved it a few times!

I hear ya, all I know is raising a girl so I'm not sure how I'd be if I had a son. I do have 6 nephews and I totally understand when their parents beat their asses!

Very rarely, and it pretty much stopped for all of them by about 6. Now the look is enough.
I don't know that I've ever spanked my daughter, but she's awesome and perfect so there was never really a need.

People get hung up on the spanking debate, but yelling/screaming is much worse for kids IMO. Especially the young ones.

Had a leather belt with my/our last name on it. Used it frequently pre 12. Never swung as hard as I could.
Same for my parents but believe they swung as hard as they could.

Done early enough, you essentially never have to do it in elementary school, etc. We called it a "pow-pow." I think I remember actually executing it twice on my son (he's 12) and maybe once on my daughter. The point is to make the threat of it as bad as the pow-pow, so you don't have to actually swat them.
I got proper spankings (not often) as a kid, and my grandmother joked about switches and whatnot, but never actually went there.

My father would regularly whoop my arse when I deserved it. My oldest son (ten) has autism and I would never spank him. When he does wrong I sit him down and explain to him what he did and why it was wrong. He is a good kid 99% of the time.
My younger son does catch hands occasionally but most of the time the threat of me doing it is enough to get him straight. He still doesn't catch it nearly as much as I did growing up.

Yes but haven’t in some time all boys and yes their defiance is absolutely infuriating. My brothers and I got spanked as well and there was no lasting damage plus I deserved every one of them except for the one where my brother set me up

Some kids (like I once did) will push and push and push and the only thing that will get them to correct their behavior is an arse whooping.
My son is just as hard headed as his pops so he got the belt when he was younger. He turned out just fine like myself
