What would be the financial, social (world community), & military consequences of a US withdrawal from NATO?

No. But we should continue to pressure the European countries to increase their defense spending and capabilities, because if shite goes sideways, we cannot do everything ourselves.
Germany, the UK, and Canada in particular need to get their shite together

this.... would go as far as tariff proportionally their % of GDP on military expenditures below the 2% requirement. if they want pay we will tarrif them and use if to support out military that protects them.....

We should stop all payments until everyone is caught up and paying their percentage.

If they don’t, then we should start cutting ties.

quote:we created so that might be difficult. It’s like asking if the ussr should withdraw from the Warsaw pact. NATO is the embodiment of the American empire. Every country in nato, is a puppet state of the U.S. government. As socialist as you might think European nations are, if they are apart of nato, there isn’t a law signed into action that threatens American interest.
Should the US withdraw from NATO?
ETA: some of you clearly don’t understand that nato countries having low military budgets is a feature not a bug. Did Rome want Ptolemaic Egypt to have a large army? Or king Herod of the Israelites?

No but hold all members financially and militarily accountable.

I don't think cutting off our own defense payments is the answer. NATO military funding isn't paid into some giant pot---its how much each nation spends on its own military as a percentage of their GDP.

Many of those countries have never had the civil liberties we have here from a freedom of speech, press, etc. perspective.

They can enact them.
How can we criticize countries like China and Russia when some of our allies, particularly Germany and the UK, imprison as many, if not more, people for speech crimes?
The hypocrisy is astounding.

Generally speaking, we shouldn't. Other nations' domestic politics are not (or at least shouldn't be) our concern.

Does anyone think Albania or Latvia is worth fighting WWIII over?
Because as it stands, NATO membership means an attack on those countries is equivalent to an attack on the UK or Germany.
That sounds stupid to me.

Ostensibly the purpose of NATO was to protect Europe from Russia. Now Europe buys billions of dollars worth of Russian goods every year. Why should we finance the protection of Europe from a trading partner?

Pretty sure our Founding Fathers called such agreements "entangling alliances" and warned everyone not to enter into them.

Yes. All of it. If anything gets as close to it as possible to force them to get rid of the WEF and Chinese influence in their countries. The world needs a hard course correction

The Shahs removal, the Arab spring, etc all done under human rights cries by people who don't follow the same rules. And then they just frick it up by making it worse.
We definitely need to use every tool in our box to change the world in our favor. Especially since China is doing it in their favor.

The US should be careful of some in NATO. They will soon be integrated with those who hate the West.
However I hear some of our own service folks are suspect as well.

The further we move away from World War II, the more people will think that shite like withdrawing from NATO makes sense, because they're spoiled and can't personally remember real strife and real war.
Even though we like to think of Europeans as sophisticated, Europeans have been hating on each other and killing each other for centuries. The more that two nation-states trade with each other (the EU) and are in alliances with other, the less likely they are to go to war with each other and killed each other.
