Well of course the Dept of Energy tops the list.
Why would we need energy?
8 people occupying almost 1M s.f.
Can't make this up.

wonder how many don't live within driving distance of the office
EDIT:
And department of agriculture is low.... thats good.... no reason we cant move the HQ to the midwest.......
Move them all:
Energy - dallas or houston
HUD - Detroit
DEQ - Nome Alaska
AG - Nebraska
So need to decentralize DC to take away the power of government ad the power of lobby groups

Holy hell. I knew it was bad but that is insane.

They should all be moved out of DC with mandatory office attendance. At least 50% would quit.

Damn. 200 SQFT per person...that's a damn mansion. Most workers where we are get less than 100SQFT per cubicle. So effectively those numbers could be doubled.

Are they assuming the 94% don't work at all?

The vast majority of those employees at all agencies serve no greater good to the nation.
Zero.
They’re there to enhance bureaucratic fiefdoms, push new regulatory oversight and hit spending requirements so they don’t lose budget next year while selecting DEI contractors to do any actual work.
Deep down they know they have no function, but as long as they can get to their retirement date they don’t care.

Interior needs to be in Salt Lake City. All the big National Parks are in the West.

the natural assumption is that there is a lot of grift and waste associated with large government agencies that have less than adequate oversight

I've got a great idea. Fire everyone who hasn't shown up for work in the past 4 years.

The eight people at energy are probably the janitorial staff.

There is a video on Yahoo, drawing a blank on the Senator's name, where the senator is asking questions about Federal employees who have been getting a special pay related to having to drive an above average distance to work. The Federal HR "specialist' admitted that that level of pay is still being paid to the thousands of Federal employees who have been working at home due to Covid. Her estimate: hundreds of millions of dollars over spent.

Maintenance, someone to work the front desk and janitorial although a lot of places outsource the janitorial work to contractors.

Some of that square footage probably includes conference room space, etc.

The work of the agency was still getting done, but having been a federal worker, I know that there really isn’t much work to do. There were weeks where I had no work to do.
It was an extremely cushy job—fantastic benefits, really good pay (FIRREA agency), and little work with no work commute. I left because it felt like I was wasting my life.
60% or more of federal workers could be sacked with no noticeable effect.

I was thinking they were all probably security guards.

Plus hallways, lobby, break areas, bathrooms, storage, mechanical, IT, conference rooms, etc. Do your bosses not have offices? 200sqft per employee seems low all things considered.
Crusade against WFH isn't the win you all think it is but if you insist on taking the L, it should all be moved to border towns.
