This guy was hot garbage at LSU.
Can we blame House for this guy too?

Rumor has it, he’s still getting dusted by the slowest, most unathletic TE in TAMU history. Fault House for whatever you want, but he can’t be blamed for that one.

House ruined his year here. That defense should never have gotten to that point.

Add him to the wasted talent list with Jayden Daniels

Yeah.. His specialty was supposed to be linebackers too. That guy legitimately cost us an all time great season and a national title. He should be thrown in prison for coaching malpractice.

I’d argue you can very much still blame house for that, given he’s not having issues getting dusted by big time NFL athletes, he either was not coached well enough to reach his potential here, or our coaches did not know how to put him in a position to succeed
He didn’t grow 2 extra legs or shave off a second of his 40 the last calendar year. The difference is coaching and role.

2022 - First team all PAC 12
2023 - coached by Matt House
2024 - starting as a rookie on a playoff team
Yeah it’s pretty safe to say he sucked because he was coached by the biggest piece of shite to ever hit an LSU staff

Yep, its on House. Wasted a hell of a talent.
He's been crazy successful everywhere but here.

I'm sorry, but when a guy gets walked by by every sec rb, can't tackle guys in the box, and can't cover... he was a bust for us. 1 on 1 stuff can't be blamed on a dc. He had 1-2, okay games late for us, which maybe meant it took him time to adjst to the speed and physicality difference. But he was horrible. Ole miss game was like he bet for the rebels. Miss st rb hitting corner td run when speights thought he had an angle was his welcome to the big boi league moment.
Good for him by making a team, earning a starting spot, and performing. I'm blown away by it, bc I watched him every sec game. He was horrible. I thought he'd solidify the defense for us when we got him too.

If the defensive coordinator responsible for teaching his defensive schemes sucks at his job then every is 2 steps slower. Because they don’t have a clue what they’re supposed to be doing. He didn’t just magically get more athletic once he got to the NFL. He had a competent coach that actually taught him the scheme he was running.
That also explains why Blake Baker was able to take a defense last year that finished one of the worst in the country and turned it into a mediocre defense this year with a less talented defensive line.
Speights wasn’t a bust. House didn’t give enough of a frick to teach him wtf to do

It definitely didn't help the kid that house was the dc... just saying physically he struggled in the sec. Period.
Theres been other stories of guys being very average or role players for us, and finding long stints in the nfl. Dillon Gordon from blocking te to solid nfl ot, Danny mccray had solid nfl tenure, etc.
I'm just blown away same guy who was a bust here is a solid nfl player. Good for him, earned it

I don’t think he struggled physically. If you don’t know if you’ve got the A gap or the B gap then you’re going to be slow getting to either of them. If you don’t if you’ve got the TE or the RB in pass coverage then you’re going to be toast before you figure it out.
If literally anyone on the defense looked good last year then maybe I could agree with you. But sit there with a straight face and name me one player that looked like they could play in the nfl on defense the last year under house? He’s not a bust. He was failed by House.

House should have made sure they had enough depth defensively and help Harold Perkins with his intelligence.
He also, should have been able to cure Greg Brooks’ cancer and stop Zy Alexander’s injury that cost him the season.
When you lose your top 2 players on the backend of the defense and lose to the draft, the other safety and a corner, from a team piecemealed together by bailing wire and duct tape, you will not be good. Look no further than Detroit last night.
You guys love to just want to fire everyone but how do you explain that same Matt House just the season before had LSU at 15 in defensive efficiency in all of D1?

Maybe he was hurt because as God-awful as House was in 2023, Speights stuck out for how bad he was even when he was in position to make plays. He just looked awful in every way including his effort. The whole board thought so. When Weeks started playing more, everyone rejoiced. So I can only imagine that his injury lingered on and House was too stupid to take him out of the game and let healthier, younger players get some playing time.

Like I said a week or 2 ago when a similar thread popped up, part of Speights’ issue was he was hurt the first half of the season. Missed a couple full games and parts of others. Don’t know that he was ever really healthy at LSU even when he got back into the lineup.
Not taking up for House, just saying.

You will never be able to convince me that House wasn't taking bets and losing on purpose. Dude was on the take. Had to be.
