If you hire a black HC, do you still have to adhere to the rule?

Pretty sure you have to interview 2 minorities. Patriots did 2 last second interviews with Pep Hamilton and Byron Leftwhich when they knew they were hiring Vrabel

There is an exception that if you hire a minority coach then the Rooney Rule does not apply.

So if you hire a minority you do not have to interview a second.

Unless you hired the coach without interviewing them. You literally just adhered to the rule.

You mean, do you have to interview a black coach if you're trying to replace a black coach?

That's the only solution for the Steelers; they got themselves into a pickle.

They really can't fire Tomlin.

Unless his replacement is the same melanin. You will never see another white coach on the Steelers sideline again as long as the legacy of the Rooney's are cherished and as long as we have ESPN and good old' Roger. The Steelers have no maneuverability; that organization is the poster-child of DEI in sports. So live with the good years, the lean years and lay down in the bed you made...hamstringing your franchise for better or for worse for eternity.

Once teams realized that Ron Rivera meets the Rooney Rule requirements, he’s been getting a lot of interview requests since he was fired by Washington.

Do you understand their position in the sports world and politics?

Apparently not.

The Steelers can't reverse course.

They're the Golden Goose, celebrated, highlighted every year....the Father's of DEI in sports. Jeez, do some reading on the Rooney Rule and how it became a double-edged sword for the franchise.

The Steelers are keeping Tomlin because it is the Steeler's way to fire their head coach. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin.

If I'm one of these tokens that clearly will never get a head job, I'm charging for my time.

Patriots situation shows why Rooney rule is a POS.

They will never be satisfied. And the Rooney rule is a joke anyway.
quote:

“[The organization made] a mockery of the process,” said Rod Graves, who now serves as the executive director of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting diversity and equality within the league, in an interview with TMZ Sports.

Graves, who previously was the GM of the Cardinals and senior director of football administration with the Jets, discussed how he believes the Patriots didn’t give proper consideration to the two minority candidates — Pep Hamilton and Byron Leftwich — who were interviewed for the team’s head coaching vacancy before Mike Vrabel was hired.
