I’ve been to Paris twice, but that was over 20 yrs ago. Watching some current vlogs, Paris looks like a shadow of its former self.

Is it really as bad as it looks?

Went last year. It’s what you make it.

I spent a week in Paris this past April and was there twice in 2019.
It has always been my favorite vacation city in the world and remains so.

I don't really think it's changed in the last 15 years. It's what it's always been (where most tourists go.) Scammers, thieves, and too many tourists. To me, London and Brussels are probably worse.

I've been a couple times since 2021. Pretty much what you make of it. I enjoy myself - I consider myself a walker when I travel and like to explore different arrondissements, stop at bars, etc. That said, couple days is enough for me and usually end up taking the train south.

Wife went with her sister and niece last April.

They enjoyed it. Didn't have any issues.

What do you even mean? I'm guessing there's 100% chance if you go you will love it and then yourself not even know what you are asking about.

That’s a ton of time spent in one city when you live half a world away, are there any other cities you’ve given a shot for comparison?

Oh yes. Many of them. I like them all but Paris is my favorite.
Art, architecture, history, ambience and restaurants. Especially the restaurants.

100%, the glorified Philly (or Baltimore or Detroit) of Europe…

I was there two weeks ago. It was amazing. I went on 2007 and it was much better this time.

Go with confidence that it’s not what you see on TV.

We went in 2019 (my first trip, my wife's second) and loved it. Can't wait to go back and see everything we missed. Treat it as any other major city with regards to pick pockets.

Parisians are dicks, but I love the city and will probably go back this summer.

was there in December and it was great. Even had a Parisian walk up to our table at nice restaurant and thank us (really America, not me) for standing up and taking the lead to provide the money to rebuild Notre Dame.

Just my own experience, but never had issues with Parisians (or anyone, no matter the country). Wife and I are in our early 30s, so we still like to explore breweries and cocktail bars. Hanging out over a drink lets the guard down and makes it easier to share stories, etc.

Was there last year. While it's a very big city obviously, we felt comfortable walking around. Taking Ubers etc. Enjoyed our time there but would much rather get out into the countryside. Our time in Normandy, based in Bayeaux, was the best part of the trip by far.

That was my experience in '07 as well. It was completely different this time for some reason. It was amazing.

No major issues, but some were very impatient with my wife and I. I think we spent too much time asking for directions etc.

It wasn't a big deal though. I still loved the experience.

I went in December. Loved it. Just nowhere in the world like Paris, and I've been to a Europe two other times.

Read the Rick Steves guidebook before you go and watch Les Frenchies on YouTube. Do those two things, and you'll know what to do to get the most out of your trip and how to interact with the people.
