St. George Proposals for Salaries

I didn't see any other post on this yet... let me know if I am mistaken.
Are you comfortable with this?
Mayor - $175,000 (matches Weston Broome's)
Councilmember - $44,000 (BR's is $12,000)
Chief of Police - $150,000
As I understand it, the Mayor in the proposed form on government is largely ceremonial. It is the council that has most of the power. St. George also does not - and there is no plan to - have a city police department.
Before the tax vote, some people voiced concern about approving a tax without knowing the details of the budget. A lot of discussion about this on the St. George Community Page between St. George supporters.

I know many disagreed with me on the tax vote, but my belief still is true: St. George has happened and we all want it to succeed. The city council discussion happens Monday or Tuesday.
What are your opinions on this? Have you emailed your council member?
(and to go ahead and get this out of the way... I have already gone ahead and fricked myself... so we can move on to discuss the issues in a rational, thoughtful, and civilized manner. What are we here on TD? Animals?!)

Then why is there a chief of police making $150k?
Also, the City Council should hire a professional city manager and pay them with that salary instead of an elected person.

To much for the mayor knowing the responsibilities. The council seems fine as the framework puts a larger burden on them as the governing body of St George
I don’t understand the police one as I thought, as you stated, they won’t have one.
Ultimately. Not my choice as I’m still a BR proper resident.

This will be very much needed in the infancy stages of the City. Several others in the other thread were against it but that position is critical.

Hopefully they are smart about it and have someone they name as "Police Chief" but is actually doing other duties for the city.
If they are paying $150k for a chief with no police, that's pretty dumb.

Yep. I live, and will continue to live, in St. George, so this is what I care about. While there is plenty we disagree on, I think we all can agree on more efficient use of our tax dollars - which is what we were told the City of St. George was all about. I just wanted to have a productive conversation on it.

Especially without knowing the job responsibilities, I definitely agree with you on mayor and COP.
I think I can justify the council salary since to do a good job you MUST spend considerable time reading a lot of documents, responding to emails, interacting with constituents and businesses, etc. Also, a larger salary means a larger group of people could actually do the job - not just those with already flexible and high paying jobs.

I'm not familiar with a councilman's duties, but the mayor and the chief of police look fair for the responsibility.

All I know is Entergy Bills have gone up by 5% in City of St. George thanks to EBR Metro Council Cleve Dunn and Jeniffer Raca, now D.A. Hillar Moore wants to propose yet another property tax to compensate for lost tax revenue from City of SG.
This duplicating of local government is only raising taxes and cost of living and still no independent school district which is why people voted for all this in first place. I also expect that zoning and obtaining simple permits to build a house or business will become a cluster frick too. I want to add a garage and addition to my house one day. Probably be impossible with all this local bureaucracy and taxes going up.
