I first saw her in the West Wing, I thought she just found a niche playing deaf people and was good at the voice

Now I feel kind of like an idiot

Seriously?!

Did you know Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles were both so good at it, they just kept pretending to be blind.

Today I found out Kevin Hart is indeed short and black. I thought he was just acting like that for the movies and tv.

She gave the first deaf Oscar acceptance speech like 35 years before Troy Kotsur gave his.

Her body was great in Children of a Lesser God. She didn't have to speak to get the point across in that movie.

Thank you for the best laugh of the day. Have an up vote. You must be younger. She had a pretty big break out in Children of a Lesser God in 1986.

quote:

She was discovered by Henry Winkler during one of her ICODA theater performances, which ultimately led to her film debut in Children of a Lesser God (1986).[21] The film received generally positive reviews and Matlin's performance as Sarah Norman, a reluctant-to-speak deaf woman who falls for a hearing man, drew high praise: Richard Schickel of Time magazine wrote: "[Matlin] has an unusual talent for concentrating her emotions -- and an audience's -- in her signing.

She won a Golden Globe for playing a deaf woman.
