Kansas pheasant hunting

I did one a couple of years ago. Great time. Pheasants, Chukar and Quail. Pretty much all released birds. Was a good time.

I’m not sure our guide is still doing hunts.

Any lodge with lots of hunters on small plots of land is running pre-release birds. Birds released weeks or months prior to the hunt are going to be pretty wild but birds released the week of the hunt aren't

Kansas will be either released birds or planted birds (CSA) if you go with a guide

If you are going with a young guide it’s a great place to start.

I have done Pipe Creek outfitters and Scattered Acres. Both were just fine for this endeavors

Once you are ready for actual wild birds look at SD. You will have options of smaller groups with pointers (what I do) or big large groups where you push and block

I know have a contact in SD where I go unguided with my dog.

Hunted Kansas in November. Hunted South Dakota last year. Many, many more birds in South Dakota. But hunting SW Kansas was a blast. We got enough birds. We didn't use a guide. We hunted with a local farmer and an 18 man group. Pheasant were stacked in irrigation tail race pits and a few in the fields. And there were a lot of quail which I would not shoot at because they flew low in the midst of 18 people. Would have been a disaster for me and the other hunters to take a serious bead on and then shoot at the quail.
