I did one a couple of years ago. Great time. Pheasants, Chukar and Quail. Pretty much all released birds. Was a good time.

I’m not sure our guide is still doing hunts.

Look to South Dakota for wild birds.

SD has a lottery for out of state duck licenses. So no go on that.

But if you want pheasants that weren’t raised in pen, go to the Dakotas.

If you do a guide hunt anywhere (Ks, SD, etc), just know that some guides pre release “wild birds”.

Any lodge with lots of hunters on small plots of land is running pre-release birds. Birds released weeks or months prior to the hunt are going to be pretty wild but birds released the week of the hunt aren't

Several times with Ringneck Haven in Pretty Prairie, they treat you well. If you get a big enough group - do the European Tower, its awesome. These are all pen raised with some wild mixed in

Don’t overlook Huns in Wyoming. They were everywhere this fall. I think it’d be a great hunt.

Not Kansas but I'd recommend Crooked Spur in Alexandria, SD. I went with them for about 3 years in a row. We'd go in Dec. when some snow was on the ground and the dog's noses weren't getting so dusty and dry.

All wild birds and you travel around to different sections of ground they either own or lease. We did get into some significant pushes through the brush.
If we did a tough walk, then they usually followed it up with an easier walk in the next field. Ward, Tyson and Joe are great guides.

Kansas will be either released birds or planted birds (CSA) if you go with a guide

If you are going with a young guide it’s a great place to start.

I have done Pipe Creek outfitters and Scattered Acres. Both were just fine for this endeavors

Once you are ready for actual wild birds look at SD. You will have options of smaller groups with pointers (what I do) or big large groups where you push and block

I know have a contact in SD where I go unguided with my dog.

I hunted with a guide over ten times in in Sublette Kansas and they never released birds except for Chukar. We hunted cut wheat fields where the pheasants roosted then road hunted in the afternoon. We stayed in houses rented by the guide and also had lunch and hot breakfasts. Excellent trips every time.

Hunted Kansas in November. Hunted South Dakota last year. Many, many more birds in South Dakota. But hunting SW Kansas was a blast. We got enough birds. We didn't use a guide. We hunted with a local farmer and an 18 man group. Pheasant were stacked in irrigation tail race pits and a few in the fields. And there were a lot of quail which I would not shoot at because they flew low in the midst of 18 people. Would have been a disaster for me and the other hunters to take a serious bead on and then shoot at the quail.

If you want to kill a limit of pheasant quickly, every day in Kimball, hunt with Nedved Guide Services.

Second all the comments on South Dakota.

Went this year for the first time. Connected with a landowner and hunted with my dog and one other. It was incredible. The amount of birds we saw was crazy. All wild.
