Getting a new truck

Looking at trading in my 2016 f150 for a newer truck. Been kicking around the idea of trading for another F150 or a Z71…I’m familiar with fords, less familiar with Chevy. What do yall think? Or do you have a different recommendation that I should consider?

After 30 years in fords I got a z71 a few months back. I’ve liked it so far but not a long enough time to say conclusively. I liked the looks of the current chevy’s better than ford and also got a better deal than I could’ve gotten on a comparable F-150. Not to mention I got tired of all the BS “offers” I kept getting from the local ford place.
Also I replaced a 2017 F150

Make sure it’s only a V8 apparently! No other option! Only V8. You’re gay if you don’t get a V8.

Don't know if they still have them, but when I was looking at Ford a few years ago they all had that auto engine stop/start feature and that was a 100% hard pass for me.

A while back I heard someone say something about possible transmission issues with Chevy trucks but can’t find anything to validate it…I’m like you, I like the look of the current chevy trucks right now but I’m most concerned with reliability.

My Chevy has that too but it’s got a button you push to turn it off. Easy to do unlike my wife’s vehicle I’ve never been able to figure out how to deactivate. I also think there’s a way to go in via an app to shut it off permanently

just traded 2016 f150 in and bought 2024 Z71 based on rebates and comparing apples to apples. went with RST in black ash color with blackout package and get compliments on the regular about way it looks. not sure what they have available anymore on 2024's but i got $11,000 off sticker in middle of November. have only had F150's since 2006 and im in love with this Z71. i would definitely buy another Z71 without a moments hesitation.

What drivetrain do you have? I just got rid of my newer truck and bought a 2016 F150 because it was more reliable than anything else made after 2019.

Chevy transmission is trash due to cheap metal and welded anchors which cause the torque converter to become unbalanced. The excess heat and balancing issues cause the components to start shredding metal through the transmission.
Unfortunately I've gotten to learn this the hard way on my 2019 suburban. Fun fun

I have a 2020 GMC Sierra Texas edition. It's been a pretty good truck but I've been eyeing trading it in for a F-150 raptor or king ranch. I just like the way the current f150s look.

I believe Ford and Chevy co-developed the new 10 speed transmission they both now use. So, I believe you get the same or very nearly the same tranny with either make. I have a 2023 GMC Denali. Great truck. I love it. It does have the auto stop, but as noted earlier, there is a deactivation button.

I just bought a new F150 STX V8 4WD. Thats base model for you ballers at home.
I got it for $47K.
I love it so far. It ain't got to fancy bells and whistles but I also will not pay $60K for a truck.

Go drive the GMC Canyon. I have enjoyed mine, it's expensive but not in the crazy big truck way.
It has a good ride, decent mpg, and excellent towing.

Every new truck is more complicated and more expensive to maintain and insure than you 2016 model. Every one of them is more expensive to purchase than your 2016 was.
Buy one from a local dealer that you trust - pick whichever one that gives you the best deal. The Ford 2.7L and Chevrolet 5.3L are both imperfect, but both solid enough and often on sale.
Good luck!

Excellent choice, but definitely not going to be on sale.

Actually it's the 10 speed Fords that are having issues. The 8 speed Chevrolets too.
In the last couple of years, they've both been pretty well sorted.

And it is permanently disabled by disconnecting the BMS at the negative battery terminal. Thought everyone knew this by now.
