Five years ago this thread would already be 20 pages, and no one thought to make it last night. Hollywood is dead.

Shogun swept the three actor categories where it was nominated, as well as best Drama TV (as it should have).

The biggest snub was Cristian Miloti (Penguin) losing to Jody Foster in True Detective. That was definitely voters wanting a big name as the winner.

Nikki Glaser did a good job as host. Huge improvement over the no-name host from last year.

A talent like Nate Bargatze presenting the new Stand Up award kind of emphasized how weak that category was.

Vin Diesel giving The Rock a "Hello Newman" sort of greeting as he walked out to present an award was damn funny.

Would be nice if some of the big movies would be available for streaming or even had a wide release in theaters

Looking at you Brutalist and a real pain

There was a time when awards buzz would drive theater viewership. Now it's actual nominations driving streaming viewership. We had to Google some of the nominees just to see if we wanted to put them on our streaming watch list.

September 5 is right up our alley, but we never heard of it before last night. Supposedly getting wide release in a couple of weeks. I don't think we've mentioned it in here, and a movie about the 72 Olympics hostage crisis as seen through the eyes of the ABC sportscasters (who had to become news men) seems like something TD would get behind.

Glad to see him get some recognition for this role. Nobody watched the movie but it will be streaming on Max next week.

I would have given it to the vigilante group of indigenous women.

Challengers - Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross - Original Score

Well deserved.

Hacks - Musical or Comedy TV Series

Nice to see an actual comedy win instead of The Bear.

Tadanobu Asano - Shogun - Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television

My favorite win of the night. He was the best character in the show.

Kathy Bates tearing up her acceptance speech when Anna Sawai won in jest was great.

Huge snub for sure. For as good as Colin Farrell was in his role as The Penguin, she absolutely killed it as Sofia. Shame that it went to Foster, when I think TD was one of her weaker roles (it felt hamfisted).

Why are you on this board if you hate movies and TV?

I thought the same thing last night when I didn’t see a thread here for it.

They did it to themselves.

It doesn’t help when you have to google 90% of the nominations to figure what the frick it is

I agree it's mostly this. But also, TD doesn't have the traffic it used to.

Look at all the praise for 12 Years a Slave. If you started a thread today, it would get 5 replies and 4 would be calling it woke nonsense.

That's because these awards are for industry insiders not the actual movie going public.
