Anyone here ever learned German? New Year’s resolution was to start learning a language.

It’s not the most useful language, but I’ve always wanted to speak it
Anyone here ever gone through this? Every word I learn makes me laugh.

Took it in high school but don't remember any.
You don't get the passive exposure like you do with español.

I’ve tried on Duolingo and it’s surprisingly intuitive

I took it in high school. I was surprisingly able to communicate a little in Germany 10 years later. I can count to ten 30 years later

Was stationed over there for four years and learned hallo, guten morgen/tag/nacht, danke, tschuss, scheißen, nein, Ich bin Kanadier/Amerikaner (depending on crowd), how to count to 100, read road signs (more accurately, recognize road signs), and, most importantly "sprechen sie english?". And maybe a dozen other things I've forgotten.
I tried to learn more, but whenever I would try to practice, Germans would just switch to English, so they didn't have to listen to me mangle their language. Conversely, when you approach Germans initially in the English language, many of them will pretend not to understand. I was told by my 'intro to German culture' instructor (a German), that, the reason for this, is many of them are embarrassed by their English skills, but are much more willing to attempt it, if you embarrass yourself first, trying to speak their language.
I really like the way it sounds. Any time one of my buddies with a German wife had the slightest disagreement with her, the tiniest spat would sound epic (I'd always picture the Nazi lady in the Last Crusade screaming "ALARM!!!"). I wish I'd learned more, but, at least for me, it was quite difficult to learn. The single guys that were out at the clubs chasing the local ubertalent were completely fluent in months.
BTW, their study guide and written test for a drivers licence was far longer than ours typically are, and only available in German. Took me two months of studying to pass that thing.

Pig Latin, it’s easiest to learn.

It’s definitely more difficult to learn than Spanish

But…
Español es más útil.

I picked up a little while I was stationed in Germany, not a lot. And most of it I’ve forgotten over the ensuing decades.

You picked quite the challenge. I wish you well though. Always thought it would be cool to be bilingual.

Oh yeah German driving test is no joke

Every time I hear someone speaking German, they sound like they are quite angry.

Took a year of it in college and got the most outstanding student award but didn’t continue with it. I can still read just a bit of it now since it has been 50 years since….

I did. But I lived there for 4 years. It didn't really help me that much. Germans speak better English than 90% of Americans.
Klaus Germans that is, not the low IQ Mohammed Germans.
