It’s called investigating a crime. The suspect is a jihadist . That’s the nearest mosque to the crime scene where those ideas have currency .If they do not currently have a line on who did it with him (they probably do) that’s as good a place as any to start to see if somebody saw or heard anything unusual. Not sure why that’s even vaguely debatable. They certainly won’t get any insight by going down to St Louis cathedral.
