My wife and I are looking at going to San Diego in Feb. She will be 4 months pregnant by that time so keep that in mind on recommendations.

What do y’all recommend during that time of year? She definitely wants to check out the zoo and whale watching. That’s all we have on our list right now.
Where should we stay? We like nicer hotels with good views and close to where things are in walking distance like restaurants, shopping and etc.
Should we rent a car or uber?
Restaurant recommendations? What are y’all’s “can’t miss” places to eat?

TIA

Highly recommended going to La Jolla. One of my favorite places in the country. I stay at the Pantai Inn

Recommend looking into Hotel Del on Coronado. Definetely check out La Jolla - spend a day out there if you have the time.

If you like a good steak Cowboy Star is the best steakhouse in the area in my opinion

We just got back from that area yesterday. The GF started her career in hotel sales at the Hotel Del and lived in SD for 13 years. It's awesome...definitely recommend a walk around the hotel and then strolling the main stretch on the "island".

I'd suggest staying in the Gaslamp District. Walkable to all the fun areas of downtown; also recommend doing dinner and drinks one night in Little Italy. The Seaport district is great for a place to go for a run or grab a few drinks.

Maybe someone can elaborate or provide a better suggestion but we went whale watching but after we got in the boat they said something about they had to stay a certain distance away as to not disturb the whales. Apparently they saw them but the distance required made it pretty underwhelming. We barely saw their spray it was so far.

Torrey Pines has great walking trails that aren't very tough.

Rent a car - you'll want to cover some ground from Coronado up to La Jolla and Torrey Pines
Zoo
Aquarium

FTR - lots of whale watching and cruises like that don't allow pregnant women, so check that out in advance

He won't be pregnant and most places serve non-alcoholic drinks as well.

Zoo is ok if you like zoos, but expect it to be crowded and animals not active

It’s more than ok. It’s the best zoo in the US

Like I said, if you like zoos, then you’ll like it. I live here and have gone half a dozen times, including the safari park.

Snow leopards were the most interesting and active of the bunch.

My wife and I went for vacation this year, stayed half the time downtown and half the time on the coast, in a town called Del Mar. We stayed at the Hyatt downtown (which sucked b/c a bunch of mexican workers were striking) and the Lauberge Del mar on the coast which was amazing.

We enjoyed the coast more than being downtown.

Things we enjoyed:
-The Zoo
-Eating Italian, no matter what area you're in, there's good Italian. Our favorite was Asti in the Gaslamp district
-Seeing the sea lions in La Jolla
-Eating at El Pescador fish market in La Jolla.
-Walking Little Italy and the Gaslamp district
-Visiting the USS Midway Museum

Stay in the Gaslamp or on Coronado.

The zoo is massive and you'll walk a lot, but February will be a nice time to do it. Cruise around Balboa Park while you're in the area.

Mr. A's is one of my favorites. Highrise downtown; the planes flying through on final are cool to watch. Food's good too.

The Marine Room in La Jolla is also really good. Get a table by the windows; when the surf's up, it's at the window.

George's is also in La Jolla (at the Cove) and is a great rooftop/patio to hang out on. Walk down to see the sea lions.

As others have said, San Diego is awesome. Went with my wife and 1 year old late last year. Plenty to do and drive around and see. Rent a car, do the zoo, get a bunch of places to eat and see from the previous threads on here.
