Took a look at on3. As of today, 2306 players have entered the portal and only 769 (33%) have new schools, while 2.2% pulled out of the portal. I know there have been some new entrants as bowl games end, but probably over 1000 of these players will end up without a school. Last year, 29% never found a home. Some hard lessons being learned.

I think mostly they’re being forced out of programs.

Kinda nice way to filter out bust. Even pulling a player that might go rounds 4-8 is better than a 5 star HS that doesn’t produce

Yeah, I've wondered what the breakdown is of kids being processed out vs. kids who make the decision on their own.

I think so too. The transfer portal with NIL is making college football like pro football. It's not good.

Good, I have zero sympathy for Any player, jumping into the portal, looking to get a better business deal

why because you don’t agree with my opinion, then explain why I'm wrong to think that

Coaches have been taking new deals from other schools or the NFL for decades. I am all for the transfer portal, but it needs to be regulated with more efficiency.

Take LSU as an example. We have 17 guys who entered the portal, I believe.

4-5 left for more money, and those guys all found homes pretty easily.

The rest either left for more playing time elsewhere or because they were not-so subtly processed.

The processed LSU guys will generally find schools. But the trickle down effect means processed ULM or New Mexico State kids will have much more difficulty finding a place to play.

I agree 100% it’s when you have players that have jumped into it three and four times it’s gone completely out of control

Flip side of this is, you are killing off the sort of late bloomer types who may have previously needed some time to come into themselves and learn the system.

I have no sympathy for a kid that willingly goes into the portal with no guarantees and ends up without a school. They can kick rocks for all I care.

The kids that are forced into the portal, now thats a different story. They were given a scholarship for a reason. The school should at least honor that, and keep them on the team.

This year is going to be inflated. A lot of those portal players that were walk on that weren't going to make the roster cit to 105.

They will mostly end up dropping down a level or two or quitting football.

Sorry. I thought this was the MSB. I had no idea I had clicked on your team board accidentally.

The money goes to the kids who produce. They wanted to get paid so let them feel the stress of competition it’s like the NFL

Because some of those in the portal are being forced to by the program.

This is an interesting take. Last year over 3300 players entered the portal. So far, past the initial deadline for a majority of players to enter the portal, a 1000 less have entered. There will be some from the bowl teams and some in the spring portal window, but will it be 1000 more than have currently entered the portal?

The 105 is not set in stone, as the Court has not yet accepted a negotiated settlement in the House case. The earliest the Court will rule is in April of 2025.

ETA: If the Court approves the House settlement in April and the 105 is implemented immediately, then you will see an influx of walk-ons into the portal. At present there are some former walk-ons in the portal, but it is at a lower percentage of the actual entrants.
