Will this be one of those wars where our DoD supports one side (Pakistan) and our CIA supports the other side (Taliban)?

Afghanistan's Defense Ministry said Saturday that its forces hit several points inside Pakistan in retaliation for deadly airstrikes last week.
Pakistan last Tuesday launched an operation to destroy a training facility and kill insurgents in Afghanistan’s eastern Paktika province. The strikes killed dozens of people, mostly women and children.
Comments from the Taliban Defense Ministry on Saturday, posted on X, said its forces targeted Pakistani points that “served as centers and hideouts for malicious elements and their supporters who organized and coordinated attacks in Afghanistan.”
Ministry spokesperson Enayatullah Khwarzami gave no further information about the strikes, including how they were carried out and if there were any casualties on either side.
However, a pro-Taliban media outlet, Hurriyet Daily News, cited ministry sources as saying that the strikes killed 19 Pakistani troops and three Afghan civilians. No one from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry was immediately available for comment.
People celebrated Afghanistan's retaliation in the country's southeastern Khost province, according to the organizer, Rasheedullah Hamdard.
Thousands turned out to show their happiness and assure the Afghan military of their support against Pakistan. Khost neighbors Paktika, which was targeted last week.
“All of them were chanting angry slogans against this action by Pakistan, such as death to Pakistan,” Hamdard said. “All Afghans are brothers, so it is necessary that the nation and government show their pride in their blood.”
Pakistani officials have accused the Taliban of not doing enough to combat cross-border militant activity, a charge the Taliban government denies, saying it does not allow anyone to carry out attacks against any country from its soil.

Can't see how Pakistan won't frick them up, though. Not like, "Takeover Afghanistan" but thwart this invasion and frick up their military within the interior.

Yes they will. And other countries in the region will support them to. Last thing we need is the Taliban to have their hands on nuclear weapons

How did we ever allow the Pakis to obtain nuclear weapons.

Maybe they are just expanding their security zone /sarc

Not so fast folks. Historically, Pakistan has had massive issues policing their border with Afghanistan. There’s a reason the “Federally Administrated Tribal Area” existed for so long (merged with the closest provincial government/sector in 2018) and had its own unique police force, the Frontier Corps. That border is mountainous and porous, and exactly why the US had such a hard time tagging terrorists in that region as they went back and forth.
I don’t see this going well for anyone and I certainly wouldn’t say Pakistan is going to crush the Taliban, certainly not in that region with all the local, tribal ties they have.

This is a snipit from June of this year, the first phase they reference was in 2023......
Between this and the millions of hungry in Afghanistan.....the UN says the biggest issue is women not allowed in Universities....

Beginning Sunday, authorities are likely to expel more than 800,000 Afghans from the country, after about 541,000 were forced to leave in the first phase in November last year.

The same Taliban that kicked out the Russians and held the US military at bay for 20+ years?

This is cute. When the DOD has tight ROE’s and the Taliban pop shot from a tree line then drive off on a scooter there isn’t much you can do. It’s not that we weren’t capable we were highly restricted and became an occupying force.

Nobody is arguing Pakistan should occupy/nation build in Afghanistan.

You do know that, shortly after 9/11, the Taliban offered to turn bin Laden over to a neutral party, right?
We said, "No, we'd rather invade your country and occupy for 20+ years while killing off a bunch of our bravest young people."

My guess is that Pakistan beats that arse.

I don't think Pakistan will fight like the Soviets or be as restrictive as US forces. I think the Taliban is about to get pounded pretty good.

President Anti would have won that war in a week.. Bush was a pussy. We knew the ones that launched the attack on us were hiding in and using Afghanistan as a base. Anyone with a decent.intelligence service knew it.
We had been struck with an attempted political and economic decapitation strike and we were justified.with any response we chose. The country was angry united and would have supported any level of counterattack.
I would have launched tactical nuclear strikes on Tora Bora to get Bin Laden, the poppy fields to put them out of business for good, the terrorist camps to send a message and any other target I deemed viable and necessary. NO US troops would have ever set foot there.
That is what those people live for is jihad..Theyve defeated enemies from the British Empire to the Red Army. Not us.
I give a speech letting it be known that if my country is struck I will destroy any country harboring the ones responsible. In the meantime the ones that financed the attack will be run down and killed by Special Forces or a Tomahawk throuh the window. War Over.
