Best decade for college football?

I’m thinking the 1990s.
Many games broadcasted starting in mid-1980s and network coverage was really good by 1990s.
ESPN didn’t control everything so we got to hear Keith Jackson on ABC, Dick Enberg on NBC, Jim Nantz on CBS, etc.
SEC fans got to hear Ron Franklin and Mike Gotfried on Saturday nights.
The bowls mattered unlike now.
And the Miami, Nebraska, Florida St teams were all fun to watch.
Yeah no BCS. But, the MNC made it fun.

1990s was peak. GameDay was at it's peak. Getting to watch a good amount of quality games without cable companies saturating the market and putting every game on TV was at it's peak. Bowl games were at their peak. Cheating was at it's peak. Not knowing the everyday stupid thoughts of college players was it's peak.

For the SEC, it was the 2000s easily. There was still plenty of poll drama and bowls definitely still mattered.
Fox was a great choice for the BCS games. They didn't really have a cfb presence then, and seeing your team on a traditional NFL channel was just special. Made everything seem so much bigger.

I'd say the 1990's. The best game I ever saw though was Texas vs. Southern Cal in the Rose Bowl.

2000-2010 was pretty awesome

Would agree as I’m currently watching Tommie Frazier and Lawrence Phillips light up Warren Sapp and Ray Lewis in the 1995 Orange Bowl.

90s, no doubt. I still say that 95 Nebraska team that throttled Florida is the GOAT

Agree. Bowl Alliance and early BCS years. In that era you had teams from all over the country winning natties. Even though there was no expanded playoff it felt like every team had a shot if they could run the table. Cfb was more fun with more conferences.

Certainly not the 2020s. Remember back in the days when an undefeated top 5 team lose in the regular season ? It’s was big news and a big deal. Now it’s whatever since you’re not penalized about not making it to the big game.

1950’s was peak college football

I'll switch and pick a 10 year window. 1997-2007 was awesome.
The sport really grew in terms of being regionally focused around conferences. The BCS bowls created a lot of drama and National intrigue. A lot of programs started heavily investing into their programs, and technology catapulted the sport first in terms of satellite (College GamePlan ftw) and team message boards/websites/recruiting forums/etc.

2001-2011 because I was in college for 7 of those years.

That second paragraph makes me want to punch you in the face so hard. Fox absolutely sucks, especially back then at covering football. You need dancing robots to make it feel like a big game. Everything about what made college great was that it was different from the NFL. You are right about the 00s being the goat though

2000-2010
More games on TV than the 90's thankfully.
Gameday was in its prime.
Darren McFadden and Felix Jones

2000’s
BCS and weekly intrigue waiting for the new rankings to be released
Bowl games still mattered and the BCS bowls were all still huge games even when it wasn’t their turn to host the national title game
Thursday night had solid games with ranked teams
One loss could derail title hopes, so every game felt more meaningful and a contender getting upset was a lot bigger deal than now
Didn’t hurt that it was a golden era for LSU winning 2 nattys and being a top 5 team most seasons

90’s. Wasn’t great for LSU results wise, but the tailgating and Tiger Stadium was epic. Tons of parity all over the country…
