Christmas classic or abomination?

I prefer the original cartoon. And i thought the new cartoon was pretty terrible. In the live action version, i really like how Jim Carrey did his thing. It looks kinda weird and its over the top. But my wife loves this movie.

Recently i have seen that some people really hate it. If that's you, why?

And lastly, Martha May, wyhi?

I've noticed this too.

IMO it's actually pretty good. There is obviously some annoying Jim-Carrey-ness to it, but that is not only to be expected, but it also sort of works. Because a live action adaptation of the OG cartoon is naturally going to have some silliness and absurdity to it. But all in all, I thought it was a solid adaptation. The story (obviously more fleshed out than the OG) is decent and the set pieces and makeup are top notch. And like I said, Jim Carrey's silliness actually works with the Grinch for me.

It's not an excellent movie or one of the best Christmas movies obviously, but it's pretty damn good for what it is IMO.

I never got the hate for it to be perfectly honest. It's not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination but it's an entertaining adaptation

I’ve always thought that it was an absolute classic. Flawless casting and very fun. Jim Carrey is excellent in the role and presents the Grinch as a mischievous yet lovable character. I’ve had to watch the new Benedict Cumberbatch cartoon version about a half dozen times this season and it doesn’t come close.

Yes, IWHI.

I prefer the OG cartoon but I still watch this version every year. It’s not a great by any means but it is still a fun movie.

Neither. It’s a solid Christmas film that is worth putting on for background noise as you go about your Christmas festivities.

I thought it was pretty good and the way they filmed all the whoville scenes was cool. I think Carey just isn’t for everyone.

Abomination. I halfway enjoyed it the first time through for the sheer novelty of it all, but it does not hold up on a rewatch in the least.

It's just a roundly unpleasant movie to watch--mostly due to strange decisions made regarding its filming. It's a very dark movie, almost German Expressionistic, and harshly lit. The shot selections are almost intentionally off putting and designed to distance the audience from the movie. The sound design makes the movie feel like it was filmed in a void. And Jim Carrey's perfomance is wholly unlikeable. I get that the character is supposed to be unlikeable, but everything about his performance is grating.

I use this line regularly.

I don’t get the hate. People forget the original is like 20 min long. Carrey is great and the adaptation to live action was pretty good.

I'm neutral on it

People love to hate the newest one, which I actually like.

Most cartoons are better left as cartoons. live action fairy tales rob them of the make believe they are supposed to be.

I like it... fun movie. I've always enjoyed the Dr. Suess universe and Jim Carrey was made for that role.

Also, yes

Honestly I have completely associated the character of the Grinch with Jim Carey’s portrayal.

I always liked it back in the day but I was 17 when it came out and Jim Carrey could not do absolutely no wrong. As I got older and his shtick got older that movie became harder to watch. Still think it's a solid movie but his performance is a little too much for adult me
