Insiders, fans in the know, has Trey’Dez Green began participating with the basketball team yet since the regular season is over? Possibly practicing with both? And the ones who’ve watched him play, is he a difference maker for the basketball team or just another skilled guy that happens to be good enough to make the roster. Merry Christmas!

My son played with him at Zachary in pick up games. He said he imagined what it was like playing against Shaq. The kid is a really good basketball player and it’s his first love. His senior year LHSAA ruled he was ineligible to play BB at Zachary it devastated him. He came close to transferring to IMG just so he could play basketball. LSU got involved and talked him out of it.

I have no insight but personally, I'd be shocked if he ever played meaningful minutes for the basketball team. Judging from his HS football and basketball tape he's a much better football player.

Also who's minutes is he taking mid season? He's a poor man's Cory Chest

I don’t think he’ll be taking anyone’s minutes. But he could provide some much needed depth. With Reed out, we are thin down low. Dont think many players will be able to push him around. At the very least, he can provide 5 fouls.

Not really. There's Collins, Chest, Robert Miller, Fountain, and Noah Boyde in the front court. Plus he's not some towering 7 foot big. I just don't see how he comes in a picks up a basketball for the first time in 8 months and is a factor in the best conference in CBB. Not even mentioning the time it would take to get into basketball shape after an entire 13 game football season

It’s a pipe dream that he can come in, after not having touched a basketball for months, to play a factor on the Tigers’ BB team. Delusional!

There's a reason Spears and Clayton gave up on the football/basketball thing so early on.

With the way the seasons overlap, it's damn near impossible.

A two-sport football player can really only work with baseball and track.

The only people I can recall that have done it with any success would be Curry from NC and Charlie Ward from FSU

It's very difficult to be a high level contributor at both football and basketball at the D1 level

Curry may regret not focusing on just football. He had enormous upside.

Hes going to have to choose one or the other. Basketball starts playing games while football still has 1/3 of the season left to play...and then the playoffs if we are in the bracket. Its very diifficult to excel and start at 2 sports like that. I believe his future is in football solely based on what ive seen from him as a freshman (he is extremely versatile) and his skillset (size/speed/strength) makes him extremely valuable bcnhe can be used to create all kinds of mismatches against the defemses we play...unless he is some kinda freak on the basketball court, which there are a ton of that are his size. Its a matter of spending his time wisely with 1 sport to increase his abilities, build his frame and body and skills (getting bigger, faster and stronger), watching film and analyzing the game, build relationships with his teammates and coaches, and maximize his value for the next level. Period. This isnt high school sports anymore.

Good one

I think he played around the same time as Curry but that's too distant of a memory for me and I'm too lazy to look it up at the moment

I wish him the best, but I don't think its possible.

there is no way he could function properly in the offense. maybe in very short spurts where everything was simplified, just when the really need a rebound or something. like off a timeout they could run a play he memorized and then take him out.

I get that he really prefers basketball to football. maybe coach will think he is amazing and encourage him to change his priorities. I doubt it. 6'7 and athletic is not terribly uncommon in basketball. in football you can make millions running and catching like he can.

I would love a second even bigger Corey chest type on the team cleaning the glass. I don't see it happening.

For example...i played football with michael clayton in hs and he could have most definitely, without a doubt, 100% played both football and basketball at lsu and started at both as a freshman. He was that talented. He was highly recruited as a sg in basketball as well (duke, unc, syracuse, etc offered him a basketball scholarship). It came down to what sport he saw could make him the most money and a longer future in said sport based on his skillset and size and saban convinced him it was football and he was right, as mike was drafted by the bucs with the 15th selection in the first round of the draft. He became a multi millionaire overnight. His size, strength, speed, and physicality (he loved to absolutely knock the shite out of you) translated more, was more rare, and was more sought after for a wr than a 6'4" 210 lb shooting guard would be in basketball as every team has one. He could have gone pro at either honestly, but football suited him better as he was an integral piece in our 2003 natty and was very close to winning offensive rookie of the year for the bucs, led the nfl rookie wrs in many catagories, and made the nfl all rookie team. He unfortunately hurt his knee badly in his second season in tampa (tore ligament) and was never quite the same but played for about a decade and ended up winning a superbowl with the ny giants.

He needs to steer clear of basketball and focus on football.

He’s being payed to play football. Do that.

Half of those guys are not talented. You’re out of your mind if you think he doesn’t go to the rec and play pick up games.

Not saying he will play or anything, but his athleticism alone would be welcomed for this team. And we jeer physicality underneath

This.

He wouldn't, at minimum, join the team until Jan. 1st. SEC play starts on Jan. 4th. At best, he's acclimated physically by mid-January. But understanding what the team is wanting to do offensively and defensively by that time is a different story. Perhaps mid-way through SEC play he could play in brief spurts essentially on the floor as a rebounder/screener (LSU is an AWFUL defensive rebounding team), but that is about the best you could hope for.

He prefers basketball and wants to play. Allowing him to do so was probably part of the football recruiting pitch with the thought being that he will see how difficult it is to be a part-time basketball player and eventually just focus on football...where he is more of an outlier as a 6'7 TE
