Heading there January 2nd. Haven’t skied in about 20 years, so that’s probably not happening, but looking for some good restaurant recommendations and anything else we should put on the itinerary. Staying at The Westgate. Plan on seeing Yonder Mountain at the Egyptian Theater while we’re there, but wide open otherwise. I know this is a stretch in winter, but any recs for places to shoot sporting clays would be awesome too.

I don’t remember the name but there is a meteor hole that you can swim in. It’s cool as shite because the water is hot. If you want to go look it up now and book because it books up early.

Firewood. That’s all I remember when we went 3 years ago. It was great.

Had a great meal at Chimayo last time I was there. Going back to PC in January and definitely going again.

Hearing any rumblings about when this ski patrol strike may get resolved? Is it as bad as some are saying?

I read again this morning negotiations are are still underway. Our next trip isn't until March but no way I would go right now with this going on.

Our negotiators met with the company all day yesterday. While this bargaining session was more productive than the last 10 months, there is still a lot of work to be done to meet the goals this unit has for a fair contract.

Since day 1, we have been ready to get back to work as soon as Vail Resorts offers a fair contract.

I'm holding out hope I can go MLK weekend. Haven't booked a flight or place to stay so I may pivot and book something in Colorado if not resolved by next weekend.

Unfortunately stuck with Vail resorts because of Epic Pass. Don't think I'll be buying one next year.

Have seen them picketing, nephew has been skiing all day every day with no issues though.
Chimayo was pretty meh, by the way. Underwhelming food and service wasn’t great.

How do you like the Westgate? I thought that place was a maze.

Last time I stayed on the 4 floor in the Bear Lodge and for me to to get to the main plaza I had two options. I could walk toward the pool house, then down some stairs, across a courtyards then up two flights of stairs (in ski boots carrying skis) OR walk toward the pool house, scan my key card then through the pool and take an elevator up a floor or two.

The design of that place is insane and I only had a one bedroom but there was no kitchen storage place whatsoever.

Don’t love it, honestly. I get that it’s basically built on the side of a mountain, but, yes, it’s extremely confusing getting from point A to point B in here. Staying in Moose Lodge and it’s a similarly complicated route to get to the lobby. Room is pretty big; it’s a villa, with a full kitchen but, not that we planned on cooking, no cooking utensils. Still kind of scratching my head on the logic on that one. Sauna and steam room both weren’t working properly in men’s locker room in the spa yesterday, which was also kind of irritating considering I was really looking forward to both post massage, and the facilities should be working properly for what we paid to be there.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback. I do remember the service being somewhat slow. If I make it back to PC this year I'll go back out of curiosity now.

I booked it last night. Res is hard to get six weeks out. They're doing something right. (We went years ago and had a great time).

We went SB 2024 and I felt the same. Our service was good, not fantastic, no complaints. I just felt like for the price the food was just good.

Everyone there seems to rave about it, we talked to multiple locals that suggested it. But I kinda feel like its just the trendy expensive place and that's why.

I hate to be negative because I've only been once and many locals did suggest it.

ETA: FWIW I never understand expensive southwest/ mexican kinda food. There's really no reason for it. Sure you want a southwest elk steak from New Zealand that's going to be pricey. But i'm just always meh on high end food with those flavors.

That’s what it felt like to me. Just running on ‘buzz’/reputation and large volume rather than actually trying to have good service and put out good food. The server clearly wasn’t paying attention to things; daughter asked for tap instead of sparkling and he comes back to table and immediately poured her more San Pell, for example. BIL said the elk was good, but I wouldn’t recommend the ribs, there was a lot wrong with the plate conceptually. Said it was roasted, but was actually braised, over sauced, topped with onion rings glued together with mashed potatoes, etc., it was just weird and didn’t work, but I’ll be the 1st to admit that I’m a very opinionated diner, having spent so much time in the industry, and I notice the little things.
Maybe we just caught them on an off night, it happens.
Had dinner last night at Riverhorse. Was by far the best meal we’ve had here.
