Unfiltered with Kiran article
Be careful out there ol baws. Not a lot of info but I’m sure someone in here will have some scoop.
Growing up my dad never let me hunt with other kids/teenagers he would let me go out all day by myself and always said “pretty hard to get shot with your own gun when the barrel is 3ft long “

Having been shot in my college days by a hunting buddy, it never ceases to amaze me how unsafe hunters, especially in Louisiana, can be. My Dad gave up hunting completely after 2-3 times out when he first moved here for work (in his 20’s). Had too many guns swung in his direction to suit him. I figure if someone shoots me in a box blind, they intended to shoot me regardless.

My uncle was shot in the leg, dove hinting in Lumberton NC.

I thought it was impossible….impossible to be shot by another human in broad daylight when I was seven years old.

But the lead is still in his calf, today.

My dad shot me while rabbit hunting years ago. The bb’s ricocheted railroad rocks and peppered me. Still have about 4 bb’s in me. Burned like hell.

Knowing the land it was on that doesn’t surprise me. Any place that backs up to a neighborhood is going to have poachers who will set up right across the property line.

And you wear orange and walk out with a flashlight on because there could be trespassers. Not saying anything specific about this shooting, but I know hunters who don’t wear orange because they know where everyone is supposed to be hunting.

It amazes me the amount of guys that don’t wear orange when on their private property. I’m as much concerned about getting shot by a neighbor looking for a wounded deer as I am for a poacher.

Yep, this is the main reason I wear orange on our property. You never know.

I used to do some dog hunting for deer with a group of guys.I started paying attention to their guns.Majority of them didn’t put their safeties on.I had 2 beagles that ran deer,I sold them and quit dog hunting.

Nothing surprises me anymore.

It’s almost worse with older fellas. They all think they know everything and rather than ask, they just do what they think is right.

I could tell some stories but I don’t feel like getting riled up on Xmas eve.

Put it this way, you can tell who has taken hunter safety or who absorbed at least 30% of it within seconds of seeing a man handle a firearm.

Most recently had a friend whip out an old rifle to show everyone and pointed it barrel ag no less than four of us

“What?! It’s unloaded!”

“More folks have been killed by unloaded guns than you think”

Then , saw a pic of an older fella driving a SxS with a kid in the front seat….the barrel of a .22 pointed UP at the kids face from the floorboard.

WTF

I’m just gonna say it. If anyone ever shoots at me on my property, they better kill me because I’m returning fire. Unacceptable for this shite to happen

How did you hear this? I’ve been checking for updates but haven’t found anything. The fact he was shot in three places means it was either a shotgun or someone kept shooting til whatever it was stopped moving. I’m hoping it was a shotgun.

Seeing a picture of a dead deer with a rifle laid across it pointing at the hunter makes me irrationally angry

Anybody who reads the story of former LSU football player Matt Branch will never forget gun safety.

Don't forget, it is popular opinion on this board to leave your rifle loaded all deer season. All year round for some people.

Half of this board makes fun of guys who think it’s stupid to get drunk while dove hunting

I’m definitely not surprised people get shot

Don't leave loaded pistols all over the house
Don't drink with guns
Don't like pistols without safeties
Don't leave all their guns loaded
Don't test rifles in buckets of sand inside of pawn shops

I feel like “don’t worry it’s unloaded” is the same as “one beer won’t make me drunk”

Both statements are true. Problem is you are wrong the gun actually is loaded and other problem is you can’t stop at just one beer
