Welp...I guess I was too excited for Baz Luhrman's Joan of Arc biopic...

The script he is writing is based on the novel Blood Red, Sister Rose. The story in that novel paints Joan of Arc out to be a lesbian. Is it so hard to believe that people actually used to place sexuality to the side and aspired to be something greater?
City Hub
As a Catholic, Joan of Arc has always been atop the list of my favorite saints. I think of her often when I find myself praying to the Almighty for courage in the face of adversity. If they screw this up I will not be giving this movie a second of my time.

I mean, both can be true.

Being familiar with the novel in question, that will most certainly not be what is portrayed

Almost assuredly.

To a shocking number of people, their sexuality (both hetero and homo) is their entire identity.
Sad really

Same guy that wrote the book that Schindler's List is based on, correct?
I know his Joan book was written back in the 70s and I think I read an excerpt but never read the whole book. Was it any good?

Considering the novel in question is best known for its laborious descriptions of battles and battle tactics, and for the internal conversations Joan has with voices in her head, OP is probably a prime example of that sad.

It's also known for her attraction to the same sex and also portrays girls from her hometown of Domremy going out into the fields and getting themselves off to one another.

Sex and love are pretty powerful motivators in this world.

I am shocked. SHOCKED, that a female warrior could possibly be a lesbian.
Who's next, Xena?

Of course. To think the approach would have been sympathetic to both reality and Christianity - that's a big, big No.

To a Progressive? Yes. Sexuality of all kinds is the one and only end.

Joan was forced to wear a dress to her execution, which it's reported she hated. Leans into the idea she may have been a bit butch, for how she dressed, and that was an added humiliation.

And yet there is absolutely no contemporary evidence of this.
The best the English could come up with was that she dressed in men's clothing. If they could have charged her with sodomy they would have, as that was a crime punishable by death.

Some of you are so hard headed and stubborn about modern Hollywood. You constantly talk about movies like it's the 90s and they have any interest in telling a good audience-centric story.
It blows my mind when I read posts such as "OH they're probably going to such and such and that would be SO COOL!"
How many times do they have to piss in your face?
You never learn and it'll keep happening until you do.

Joan of Arc was a real person and positive symbol of Christendom.
LGBTQ-ing her is about spitting in the face of Christianity and her role in Christendom
Xena is fake. Maybe you thought Xena was real?
Wouldn't be surprised if you did.

Were you really excited for a montage of Joan putting on her armor in slow motion while Wet arse Pussy blasts in the background?
Or while she’s being burned at the stake Sabrina Carpenter is blaring?
Baz sucks
