I thought if it was going to expand then 8 made more sense

No bye weeks. It has to be a power of 2 for it to make any sense

The tv money grab is too much. CFB has officially been ruined. The big game matchups during the regular season don’t mean crap anymore. Playoffs is just another chance to feed tv deals and fans more garbage and the stupid people eat it up

I thought it should be 6. 2 byes for 2 teams that are most likely more deserving like Oregon this year

I like the 12 teams but I do think that SOS needs to mean more than it evidently does and the conference championship winners don't get automatic byes.

It's a slippery slope, I get it. I'm glad I don't have to figure it out but that's what I think should change.

No one wants to see a team that didn't beat 1 top 25 team go undefeated and get to the playoffs just to get whooped. No disrespect intended but I think everyone will agree on that.

There needs to be a few tweaks done.

People bitched when it was 4 teams. Bc not all teams who deserved to get in got in. They were bumped by a team that was a known name (Bama) over another.

They expanded to 12. Now people are bitching bc it is too much? People will never be satisfied.

If a number 11 seed wins in basketball, it is great. The team can be ranked around 40 something. If a team that is seeded 9-12 wins in football, it is a travesty.

I guess the NY Giants in 07 never should have been allowed to win the SuperBowl bc who cares about a 6th seed that barely got in win the whole thing. How crappy is that?

Watching the current system play out, I would have to agree with you.

The BCS system was better than this.

8 best teams max. The only way a 9-12 team has a shot is if there is a qb injury that caused a few losses.

It should have been six these assholes ruined the playoffs all over greed by forcing it to 12. There's no way someone could look at college football and think there are 12 teams capable of winning it

The mistakes are

Strength of schedule having no weight (of of course this would leave B1G and SEC only playoff)

Having byes (should have been 8 or 16 teams)

Trying to have teams that represent all regions of the USA for TV viewership (money)

The jump from 4 to 12 was just too much. Most years college football somehow managed to have the two best teams playing each other for the championship. Obviously it was never perfect and you would have an odd year here and there like in 2004 where an undefeated SEC champion Auburn was left out in the cold in favor of #2 OU and #1 USC. But they went to a 4 team playoff so a team like Auburn would have an opportunity.

I really liked the four team playoff because typically there are only a few legitimate championship caliber teams. The regular season was massive because 1 loss could make of break your playoff chances. Most years it was clear who the top 4 teams in the country were and they were able to settle it on the field.

In all my years of watching cfb I have never seen a year where there were 12 legitimate championship caliber teams. Even 8 was a stretch but an 8 team playoff made sense. It would eliminate the controversary that popped up here and there. An undefeated Auburn or FSU team makes it in. Now they have overcorrected to absurd 12 teams and instead of eliminating controversary it has created more. They could make it a 16 team playoff and there would still be controversary. There will always be the first team out who felt like they deserved to be in.

No expand to 16. These games were absolutely incredible, just the buzz from the campus sites.

Don’t get your hopes up. They’ll expand it more teams before they drop it down. Probably will be a 14 in 2026

Yup. Name one sport, college or professional, that contracted the playoffs to make the product better. It doesn’t happen. Less games equals less money from TV deals. They don’t go backwards. That’s about as likely to happen as eliminating a rent a win and going back to an 11 game regular season.

Not only that but the bowl games become meaningless and many players opt out.

I say expand it to 16 teams.

Brian Kelly can’t get to 12 and you want to drop it to 8? Why do you hate LSU?
