Some interesting games today and tomorrow but it just doesn’t seem right with Arizona State and Boise State sitting out with byes. They should nix conference champions taking the byes and just give byes to the actual top four. Expect that change after this year,

It will. They had to use this format to get everyone on board but I’ve heard they’ll just seed the top 12 and still allow each power 4 conference champ in along with 1 group of 5 champ.

How can you even be a top 4 team if you didn’t even win your conference?!

That’s a novel idea!

We ready!
It does if you just think of things in terms of conferences rather than best teams getting in/byes.
Im sure all saints fans remember a 7-9 Seattle Seahawks team getting in the playoffs because of their weak conference as well.
Not sure what the worst nfl team to get a Bye was.
A playoff isn't necessarily for determining if one conferences 4th or 5th best team is better than another conferences best team, it's for taking the best teams from each conference and seeing which one is the champion.

Do teams that get byes get less money being that they play less games? Less TV time.
Posted on 12/20/24 at 7:13 am to paulb52
Their should be no byes. Line up and play. They have killed conference championships anyways. 1-16, two rounds of home games, and by home games none of this ticket sharing and visiting music played etc. Higher seed earned it they get a true home game.

Seems like they just miss out on the $3 million subsidy
LINK
$4 million for each of the 12 teams that makes the College Football Playoff
$4 million for each of the 8 teams that makes the College Football Playoff Quarterfinals
$6 million for each of the 4 teams that makes the College Football Playoff Semifinals
$6 million for each of the 2 teams that makes the College Football Playoff National Championship Game
Additionally, each team who participates in the College Football Playoff receives $3 million to cover expenses for each round.
Individual conferences can also give extra money for a first round game.
SEC: For 2024-2025, the SEC will give $3M for each team participating in a first-round game, $3.5M for the quarterfinals, $3.75M for the semifinals and $4M for the National Championship, plus travel expenses for each game.

quote:then Oregon and Texas wouldn't have given a shite about their games. (OK that's a hyperbole, CCG are still important to programs).
They should nix conference champions taking the byes
But protecting against those scenarios and making sure the CCG still mattered a lot is why that rule is in play.

Yeah it's pretty weird to say they should get rid of byes because they already killed conference championships when we actually had a good day of conference championships because of the byes on the line partially I'm sure

Add 2 teams and top two conference champions get byes which will usually be SEC and B1G.

The entire world revolves around those 2 conferences. We should let them fix Ukraine and the budget, too.

So the old “eye test” huh?

While I don't think Arizona St and Boise St should get byes, giving 4 arbitrary teams byes can really create a problem
Now you're introducing debate on the best at-large teams and the best teams to get byes
Eye test rankings to determine byes? No thanks, at least in this system the byes are clear cut

I’m a hypocrite because I say I like it the old way where the bowls determined the MNC, but if there were 16 teams with no byes this would be the greatest college football weekend ever.

Yeah besides choosing between Arizona state or boise and clemson. Still better that they only could choose between conference champ winners though

Did we ever figure out which team has had to bribe players to keep them out of the portal during the playoff?
I'm picking the Vols for the upset in Neyland North.

I'm guessing most if not all of them. Would you rather make $50k as second string at Ohio State or Georgia and maybe compete for a championship or would you rather make $200k and start at Michigan or Florida? Also the quicker you get in the portal the better your chance to get paid before the buyers find someone else.

They don't have any more losses than the other teams playing this weekend, and they actually won their leagues. Seems right to me.

I swear some of you don't really want a playoff. You want the old poll system and "eye tests".
