Planning a trip to Southwest Utah- Bryce Canyon and Zion, etc.

Looking at about 6-7 days in Southwest Utah in mid May. Likely fly into LAS, rent a car and drive to Springdale for a 2-3 nights to check out Zion, then move closer to Bryce Canyon for a couple of nights to hit that park. Any recommendations on good small towns to stay at near Bryce? Cedar City looks nice, but not really close to Bryce. Maybe Hatch or Tropic? Any tips regarding this or really anything on the area would be appreciated.

Went about 4 years ago. Flew into LAS, then drove to Hatch. Had a cabin just outside of town. Drove from there to Bryce for one long day, then drove down to Zion and was fortunate enough to stay in the Lodge onsite.
Not much going on in Hatch but I recall a few cabins in the area.
I think we stayed in Sevier River Ranch & Cattle Company. My son found it on AirBnb.

There are two Best Westerns right outside of the park that are pretty good plus some decent restaurants right around there. This would be considered in Bryce Canyon I believe. I also think there is an Under Canvas resort in Widtsoe. We stayed in the one near Antelope Canyon and loved it, but that was in summer time. I would recommend Wildflower resort near Zion as well.

Plenty of places to stay in Springdale. Park lots fill up quick, so just take the shuttle to and from the park. Works very well. Lots of restaurant options in Springdale too. Bryce is different in that there is no real town built up around the gate. Just a few chain hotels and a couple of restaurants. There are a number of other options in the general area.

We did that trip a few years ago but rented an RV in Vegas and stayed in the parks.

Wherever you stay, make sure to stop by the Thunderbird Restaurant near Orderville and get a piece of pie. The chocolate cream pie is something you will dream about once you’ve had it. Hard to beat a Ho-Made Pie.

Our family went 15 years ago. Started in Vegas and drove to Zion. Then we went to Page, AZ and rented a houseboat on Lake Powell for 4 days. It was fantastic. After that we drove to the South Rim and stayed for 1-2 nights. Great trip!

Search old threads. There’s lots of info available.

I've stayed in both Alton and Duck Creek Village, which are roughly an hour or so to both parks in either direction. Airbnb'd it both times and was really happy with where we were.
I will say this, if it's your first time going to Zion, I would highly recommend driving in from the east on hwy 9 on your first visit. The drive in and through/out of the tunnel is stunning.
There are several tour companies out of Orderville/Glendale area that do slot canyons, jeep tours, etc.

You only need one day at Bryce. Spend more time in Zion on days you’re not exploring the valley. You can check out Kolob Canyon or Northgate Peaks in Zion. Beautiful drives to those trails.
Check out hotels in St. George. More options for staying and more restaurants. We were able to day trip to Bryce from there and had plenty of time.
When driving from Zion to Bryce, take Hwy 14 East out of Cedar City to 89. You can also detour off of 14 to 148 to 143 to 89. Better, more scenic drive.

Just got back. I agree that you only need 1 day in Bryce. In zion don’t miss angels landing, narrows, and canyon overlook trail. Also Kanarra Falls trail on west side of Zion is highly underrated hike

came to say this
we rented a house in Hurricane on a golf course. The Women's PGA happened to be playing there. It was my daughters favorite part of the trip.

I 2nd the St George, we always use that as our base, tons of places to stay- fav is Desert Color- best place I’ve ever stayed at with their lagoon. I would recommend a half day at Snow Caynon with e bikes, and a stop in Mesquite, NV along the way..VERY cheap minimums for gambling and drinks as soon as you sit down.

We flew into St George via Denver.
Stayed in an eco glamping place. Really cool. Hit up Zion and wow!

Kanab is a great spot - quiet, clean, not too far from key activities, and they have food and grocery stores.
Don’t miss Pink Sand Dunes State Park or Cedar Breaks when you’re out there.
