Expectation has the rate being cut .25%. Why is that good/bad?

I hear that market has been caking this in this week/last. So no major ripples expected after the announcement, as long as, it is what is expected?

What type of sectors benefit/doesn't from this cut?

*UPDATE: I figured I add the below for everyone's enjoyment:

SOFI has been ripping since October. I sold profits at $14, and regretting it.

I may have bought your shares.

There's an expectation of a substantial cut this afternoon.
I haven't kept up with exactly how large.

Expectation has the rate being cut .25%.

And after the rate reduction is announced, the next thing they'll say is, "We now believe rates are at or near equilibrium for further economic growth and price moderation."

Which is Fed Speak for, "Grab your nuts, boys, we ain't cuttin' rates again!"

The rate cut announcement today isn't important. It's already in the market. The question is, the guidance. How many rate cuts in 2025?
Personally, I think we'll see just 2. One in the spring and the other late summer/early fall. I think if that sort of language is used it'll be bearish.

Oh yeah that's another thing I heard. Every other fed meeting is whats being talked about as a positive. I'm assuming that's true?

So do they meet 4 times a year so 2 would be every other meeting?

The Fed holds 8 Open market Committee meetings a year and can schedule more if necessary. All FOMC meetings don't conclude with a rate change.

Maybe I'm wrong because everything has been backwards for a while but the market has been down for a couple weeks and they usually like a rate cut. But again, nothing seems to be normal so who knows?

my 2 cents:

good news is already priced in and there is substantial downside risk if traders dont like what Powell says.

Kinda surprised they'd cut again to be honest.

Ok...so if you are right then the cut not doing what it would normally do is the scary part. ie...hopefully it goes up, but may not if "caked in." I get what you mean. thx.

I do still have some DJT that has been slowly moving up the last week, but has stayed stagnant the last couple of days. :fingers-crossed: the announcement helps dislodge it.

Thanks. So no rhythm or reason to when/if they do it. Like "the first Tuesday of every other month", etc.

But do they tend to announce ahead of time if that particular meeting will or not have a rate cut or is it all depends on the meeting discussion? And is it all just pure speculation, like they may not do anything today?

Thanks for the patience on questions, trying to catch up on stuff I never really paid attention too.
