The Simpsons premiered on December 17, 1989, with the episode “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”, a Christmas special. This was the first episode of the series, which was originally planned to premiere earlier in the fall of 1989 but was delayed due to animation problems.

The first episode, titled “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire” (also known as “The Simpsons Christmas Special”), was a Christmas-themed episode. It was originally intended to be a Christmas special, but it became the series premiere due to animation issues with the second episode, “Some Enchanted Evening”. The episode focuses on Homer’s attempt to earn extra money for a Christmas present by working as a department store Santa and then trying to make some extra cash by catching a rabbit to sell as Christmas dinner. The episode sets the tone for the series, introducing the main characters and their quirks, and establishing the show’s blend of humor, satire, and heart.

Bart would be 45 by now. Older than Homer was when the show premiered.

How does it stay on the air if nobody’s watched it since like 1996

The first version of the Simpsons I saw was a Butterfinger commercial. I don't remember if the commercial came first or this Christmas special

It's been so long since I've watched the Simpsons, I wouldn't know.

That said, I definitely think I'll have to do a rewatch of the original Christmas special episode this Christmas season. Been many years since I've seen it.

Yeah they got Rid of Apu, and now Harry Shearer can't even voice Carl anymore

That's dumb as hell. Was it because he owned a little mart?

Because he was "stereotypical".

And wasn't voiced by an Indian.

Basically didn't pass their new Woke Sharia Law

The peak of The Simpsons is when they sang the blues.

I was in Middle School when it debuted. I turn 50 next year. It is crazy to think about!

Did you watch the premiere when you were younger?

Wondering how it was marketed back then. Like was it some what of a big deal or just kind of an afterthought and then blew up.

Grew up watching it every Sunday with my Dad, and we still quote lines from episodes 25 years later. My son loves it too now and we'll watch a few episodes a week on Disney+

That's pretty cool how it's been something the family could enjoy over a few different generations. Not often that happens with TV shows, or at least not with shows that are still being made.
