I heard Moscona talking about 5 or 6 in the top 150 on his show today. Just for fair comparison, how many if any out of top 150 did we sign in portal last year? It obviously seems this class is a lot better than last years, but how much better if just going by the rankings?

I think we had one, maybe two.
Our headliner was CJ Daniels...

I don't know if portal rankings are a thing like recruiting rankings for incoming freshman. I would rather be in a position were the coach loves the roster and no one enters the portal and are last in portal rankings.

Being high in portal rankings just shows that you are lacking in key spots and/or need depth in key areas.

Addressing wants, needs and must, like Mascona said is the key to the transfer portal. Where you are ranked with other teams is not really that important because they may have a lot more wants, needs and must than you.

To be fair CJ Daniels is currently ranked higher than every portal commit that we have gotten so far.

College football has changed. I get your point but gone are the days of 4-5 star depth across the board waiting for their turn

Also the portal has its advantages compared to regular recruiting because you are paying a 20 year old with SEC, Big ten or ACC experience rather than an 18 year old playing 1A high school football.

The disadvantages are also obvious-you over do it and you upset your current roster. You end up with paid mercenaries with no loyalty to the school etc etc. you also have no idea how a portal class will look year to year. You can’t bet on finding that Walter nolan because there may not be a Walter nolan

Portal is like moneyball As. For a while they drafted almost exclusively college kids because they had a higher likelihood of panning out.

But for every 2022 FSU there has been a 2023 FSU or even 2023 OM.

Just have to find the balance

CJ Daniels is currently the 15th ranked WR in 24/7. Barion Brown is ranked 8th

I was going by On3, the industry standard and site that replaced 247

At present LSU is #1 in portal ranking on 247
247
Ole Miss is 2nd, but has a slightly higher rating avg with 1 fewer players

We were 43rd last year, but some teams had a lot more portal players which skewed the ranking. Rating was lower by almost 1 point as well, though.

Wrong wrong and more wrong. If you’re not using On3, which is now the industry standard, you’re going the way of Les Miles and having time pass you by.

They both have a transfer rating of 91. But go actually watch the highlights of each player this season and tell me you think CJ Daniels is in any way a better player.

You using industry ranking or the On3 ranking? I’m using strictly On3 rankings, you are factoring in other websites such as 247 and Rivals.

I’m not trying to debate who is better. The guy I originally responded to made it seam like having CJ Daniels as our higher ranked player from the portal last year was a bad thing and I just pointed out that he is currently ranked higher than all of our current commits. Hopefully that will change anyways.

On3 has him a 90 which is still lower than Brown. Do you want to post what you’re looking at so we have a better idea of where you’re coming up with your info? I mean you claimed CJ was ranked high than everyone we have picked up and he’s not even higher than one of our WR’s. Soon to be two when Anderson signs. Just curious not trying to argue.

ETA: I see another ranking that has it rounded up to 91 on On3 and they tie them. Maybe that’s the one you’re looking at.
Also, I think Daniel’s was great. He was one of my favorites. I thought he was a possession WR. Caught everything and seemed to be reliable. I think he’s possibly a Sunday guy and hated to lose him. I think we’re doing well in the portal though.

On3 Transfer Portal

I’m looking at the this list. I’m not trying to argue about it, as these ranking don’t actually mean much. It was just a response to the guy that I originally responded to.

Barion Brown is inside the top 15.
Daniels is #22.

I know you are. That factors in 247 and Rivals. It’s not worth arguing about though so I’ll stop.
