Freaky good.
Just a special football player and not just a receiver.

He used to be the gold standard for a receiver.

Then Jerry Rice broke all his records, and now Largent has been relegated to basically an unknown these days.

Look at Largent. Just a simple dude with simple uniform. Double bar face mask, no gloves, no wristbands. But he was cooking like no other before Rice came along. Dude has a career 16 ypc without protection of the rules. That’s a higher ypc than Rice, Moss, or Owens.

As a little kid will never forget the shot Largent put on the Raiders DB after the INT

Yeah one of the All time greats for sure!

Unless you're talking about a different one it was against Harden of the Broncos. Pretty sure he said it's his favorite play of his career.

He ran incredibly precise routes and could stop on a dime. I remember DB's getting frustrated because he was not incredibly fast. He was not gonna burn most DB's. He also knew how to get lost when there were multiple receivers and then pop up right at the first down marker

Steve Largent was a "football player" in the way Walter Payton or Jerry Rice or Champ Bailey was a football player. Wouldn't have needed a position to succeed

ngl I’d always just assumed the Astros sending Kenny Lofton to Cleveland for fricking Willie Blair and Eddie Taubensee back in 1991-92 was unquestionably the single worst trade Houston sports history…

until a few years ago, when I first learned the Oilers drafted young Mr Largent in 1976, only to trade him later that summer to the Seahawks for a 1977 8th Round pick

oopsies

I’ve only vague memory of the Joe Morgan trade tbh

Baltimore was the clear loser in the other case imo, considering they ended up trading Curt Schilling, Steve Finley and Pete Harnisch for a declining Glenn Davis (IIRC)

Astros tried to make a closer out of Schilling and traded him to the Phillies.
