Have you ever been a fan of the band W.A.S.P.? I’ve known about them for a long time, but have really gotten into them lately. Their first album is my favorite so far. What’s your favorite?

A couple of high points, but mostly noise.

I Wanna Be Somebody is probably my favorite.

Loved their remake of The Real Me also.

Lotta noise about them before they hit the scene, mostly about the visuals, imagery surrounding the band, etc. Bought the first album back in the day and it was my last W.A.S.P. record. Just wasn’t my thing. Remember they had some cheesy, over the top music videos.

I can’t get down with WASP cos Blackie said my instrument of choice is “the tool of ignornace.” :(

Yeah...lotta sizzle, not so much steak.

Blackie was a provocative showman, but the music didn't hold up to their contemporaries.

I saw them open up for KISS (without makeup) in 1985 (or 1986, can't remember)

They came out strong with a good first album & shock rock theme but Blackie’s control issues led to too many lineup changes to keep anything consistent. Some really good songs & some really cheesy ones.

Blackie is now a Christian. If you could go back in time to the 80’s & tell people this they would laugh & wouldn’t believe you.

I saw them open for Iron Maiden on the Piece of Mind tour in Beaumont TX. Was never really into them but agree they had some decent songs.

Blind In Texas did well in Beaumont that I recall. LOL

I think Lawless was also played minor league Baseball.

Regardless of any one's personal religious views, it is good if he found his peace.

The Crimson Idol is pretty damn good. They have been on a US tour after spending most of the last couple decades mostly in Europe

It is all summed up in the codpiece "incident". Blackie is backstage, groin still smoking (not in a good way), after an explosion with the pyrotechnics and he's sitting there, telling the band, "If you guys would write better songs, we wouldn't have to do this shite."

Forgot about this one. It's good too.

They had an instrumental called Mephisto Waltz that was pretty good too.

I recall seeing a doc on YouTube not too long ago in which Blackie admitted the name was inspired by an actual wasp. In the band's very early days, they were having a discussion about possible names and a wasp was flying around the room and they were swatting at the annoyance. They decided to name the band after it.

The periods were inserted in the name to imply a hidden meaning and to simply to keep everyone guessing.

Reminds me, N.I.B. by Sabbath was interpreted by many to stand for Nativity In Black when in reality the title was in reference to Bill Ward’s beard, which Geezer thought looked like the nib of a pen.

Maybe not their best song, but this one takes me back to high school:

You might be thinking of the world slavery tour in ‘85. I saw Maiden in Biloxi and then a few days later in New Orleans in February of that year and W.A.S.P. was definitely opening on that tour. Also, they played Beaumont the night before Biloxi according to setlist.fm.

When the lights went down they hit the stage with The End by The Doors playing before launching into On Your Knees.

They were on Tipper Gore’s Filthy Fifteen songs list with Animal.
