Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta flirted with a purchase of the Washington Commanders in 2023 before he was outbid by New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris. Fertitta now reportedly eyes a new NFL team potentially for purchase in the coming years.
quote:

Fertitta could work to purchase the New Orleans Saints if they became available for purchase from current owner Gayle Benson, according to a recent interview between Fertitta and the Houston Business Journal's Chandler France. Benson, 77, is not currently in the process of selling the Saints. Fertitta still wants his intention known to New Orleans' current owner.
quote:

"I've always loved the New Orleans Saints, but [Benson] won't sell them right now," Fertitta told France. Fertitta also said he "hasn't sent an official offer to Gayle, but he has told her of his interest in the team if she chooses to sell it sooner."
As long as the team doesn’t leave New Orleans

Fertitta would keep them here. Pelicans would be toast.

Also there are some rules for both leagues about owning teams. Not sure he can own Rockets and Saints?

He’s not well loved as an owner by Rockets fans.

Well Houston & Vegas already so that would be a good thing regarding relocation if he ever bought the team.

I’ve always heard leagues don’t like potential owners to talk about that, strange that he specifically mentions a team.

Could be an indicator that discussions have already begun behind the scenes with multiple potential buyers

Why not? Gayle owns the Pelicans and Saints.

Do it. Would love to see he or Graves buy them and include the Mannings as minority owners.

What a dumbfrick Gary Choest was for not buying the Hornets for a song back in 2008. Dude would have made billions and we as fans wouldn't be stuck with this dumbass Pelicans name and logo and overall poverty franchise run out of the Saints' basement

You could own teams in the same markets in the pass (Benson, Paul Allen) but the NFL changed it a few years ago to allow ownership of any market

Fertitta is MAGA AF and brings with him his fine dining restaurants

No clue about Fertitta but it can 100% get worse than Gayle Benson.

So, of all the people who have passed through the (not so) great state of Louisiana, you pick the man who started a fried chicken restaurant and another man that spent most of his time on the turf of the Super Dome? I will never understand the obsession with these two groups of people by Louisiana natives.

Other than bleeding wealth out of your state and actively campaigning against in-state universities, what other evidence do you have that they wouldn't turn around and move the Saints to a better market with a shiny new stadium?

There's no better market than New Orleans currently without a team, and the NFL is loyal to existing markets like no other league.

The Superdome is a top 20 NFL stadium (I personally believe it's top 15). The renovations are stunning. It's an architectural marvel that more and more people are waking up to.

Building an NFL stadium today that is as good as the Superdome would cost new city over $2 billion dollars. There's no market out there that would do that.

And I say this with clear eyes. The Pelicans should absolutely be moved. Gayle would have more than doubled the franchises worth if she had moved them to Sea or LV before those cities were awarded expansion teams

Think of all the alleged diddlers defense funds she could finance with the sale of the team.
