Youth bow recommendations for an 8 year old

My 8 yr old son has been taking archery lessons at school and loving it. I was thinking of getting him a bow for Christmas. Something he can target shoot with. Any suggestions on brands or pull weights or lengths or anything? Targets and arrow recommendations? I have no idea what to budget but let’s say $100.
Thanks OB.
Thanks OB.

Diamond makes a good bow for kids.

Find a used Matthews Mustang.
Usually priced pretty well and basically a mini Matthews now.
They are adjustable and awesome little bows.
Very accurate. He shot 3D competitions for two years and killed his first deer when he turned 10

I believe one of the best things that you can do is to buy him or her a cheap light weight recurve or long bow. Simple, easy to shoot, and lots of fun! It will also teach them alot about true archery!!!

I was definitely leaning towards recurve

Honestly I’m not sure there is anything in that price range that’s really worth buying. My kids wanted a bow after shooting a bunch at summer camps this year. I got some bear archery thing that was about 60 or 70 bucks, mainly because it shoots through the middle of the riser and one of them is a lefty. It’s pretty crappy. Even at 10 yards it will only put arrows into the one target I have that’s made from horizontal layers, they just bounce off of bags that aren’t already full of holes.
We went and shot a mission hammer last week and they will be getting those for Christmas. Quite a jump in price, but my small 7 year old could pull it fine at the lowest setting and it’s adjustable enough that he can shoot it until he can pay for his own.
There may be some decent options between those two price points that I overlooked as I was only looking at models that come in a lefty version.
Edit: wrote this before I saw your reply about arecurve. I’m no help there.

Mission switch….. see if he can handle at the lowest poundage. If he is a big kid maybe could pull it off.

I’m pretty sure the Genesis target bow is the only approved bow for NASP. Keep that in mind if he plans to wants to shoot for school
