Wow. Good move for him tbh, hopefully he can keep Mensah

His iron may never be hotter than it is right now… no guarantees that the P4 wants him next year

He's got 8 games in the AAC again next year + South Alabama & Northwestern. He'll 100% stack a bunch more wins in 2025.
Programs like him as well for his NIL and Recruiting work.

Id almost always agree w this sentiment but it's an almost unprecedentedly shite coaching market so its one of the few times where staying is probably the right call. even with Mensah in the portal

100% this. There is no need to jump to a program that doesn't seem like a good fit. I could see Arkansas and Kentucky likely opening next year and Arkansas being the job he takes.

The Birmingham radio show I listen to are good friends with him and have him on all the time.
They said last week without directly quoting him that "Jon loves Tulane and said he will stay another year because he knows there will probably be up to 3 SEC jobs open next year." Smart move

Surely he could do better than those.

Well the big rumor is he wants Kentucky because he played there and coached there. I don't think he will go there because football is second to basketball. I don't know if he would be a 'fit' at a place like Auburn. Just looking at potential SEC openings next season (because of fired coaches) it would be Kentucky and Arkansas.....maybe Auburn.

I mean I’d take UNC over both of those. But if that’s his Alma mater, I get it.

Definitely the smart move to stay another year and see what opens up next year

As an Alabama and Tulane fan, i unfortunately do think he’d be very interested in the Auburn job and would be a good fit there. He’s an Alabama native and has coached successfully in state at Troy. So I think he’d fit there.

Auburn is a good job. Its a big step up from a place like Kentucky

Football isn't the top dog at UNC so it might be a short term gain long term loss in his eyes. Staying at Tulane for another year where he is very likely to win 8 games next year will still keep his star bright. Tulane proved that they can bring in good (at least on paper) transfers so he likley won't have to 'rebuild' next season.
I don't have any inside information on what he is looking for in a "bigger" job, I am just looking at potential openings and where I think he would 'fit in'.

Its a risk not to strike while his name is hot. Especially with his stud QB is looking for a big payday in the portal

Right I understand that, maybe he would fit in at Auburn maybe not. I could just see him doing well at a school like Arkansas. Plus if he gets similar money to what Pittman is getting it would be double or triple of what he gets at Tulane.

His name was relatively "hot" coming in to Tulane. A lot of CFB insiders thought it was a great hire and repeatedly said they didn't think he would be there long and would get an SEC job in a few years.
He's just a good coach
He's just a good coach

He seemed to have a problem after bye weeks (Rice and Memphis) and against teams with 'equal or better' talent (Kansas St, Oklahoma and Memphis).
I was pretty livid after the Army game because of how shite they looked a week after looking like shite, however he still won 9 games and beat bad teams how you should beat bad teams.
